Hey newschoolers
My band recently put out a single on itunes.  We're all really stoked.
 I know i'll probobly get a ton of hate about advertising this, but if you could give it a listen, even buy the song if you like it, it would really help us a ton!

+k for any feedback.  Let me know if you bought it! Tell me what you think!

ps- Genre=Indie and I play drums and sing.

I'm not going to call you a douchebag, because I made a thread on newschoolers for honest feedback and all, but honestly, I think you are taking us way too seriously. You've given your opinion many times already. We're a couple of Juniors in High school that are best friends playing music because we love it. I understand you don't like us and thats fine, but gtfo.

Well if you're not serious, that changes everything. I assumed you were a band that had ambitions and wanted to be famous and all that. If not, that's cool. If so, then you want to do everything in your power to get better, that's why i said what I said up above too. Its not that I don't like you, its that I see potential, and I wouldn't want you kids ruining it with poor contributions from bandmates.

also, the writing is sub par, but whatever.  sounds flipping sweet.  paid 40/day for 2 days of studio time plus 150 to have it mastered.  all live drums (SJC custom drums, and all single pedal work) , synth was a Korg R3, and then fruity loops for pads, strings.   guitars were done through a line6 POD X3 and my gibsons.

Ah yeah i probably should have said we are not too serious. We started last year as sophomores in high school, and we're ending next year as seniors.

I really like it!
but only one thing let the guitarist practise some more :) he's not eeuuuhm.... (dont know how to say in english) the solo i heard is not "perfect" haha really dont know how to say in english:)
but the vocals are really nice!

Thank you! We're in the middle of recording an album, so right now we only have 2 songs on itunes. (and we have a tshirt contract that we won which we might start selling soon)

It sounds like you cut and paste your style from fallout boy and mainstream alternative rock bands and added some timid, self-concious vocals and nasally keyboards.

Express yourselves. Don't hold back or try to conform to a style. Use your influences as guidelines and inspiration, not blueprints.


Also, the guitars are not very technical. Good, but not technical.

We need to get a name to separate pre- and post-80's punk. Stooges, Smith, Dolls, are so different from Brains, Flag or Misfits.

well, I'm pretty sure bad brains, black flag and misfits all started in the 70's. 77 or something. around the same time as the ramones and when the clash and pistols were just pretty much starting (and finishing if you're the pistols)

but they're the still all first wave punk.

second wave did start around 80 though with the dickies and such

and before punk really started, weren't the stooges and such called protopunk or something? or garage rock. cause punk never really existed till after they were formed

Misfits were nightmare punk and didn't make any albums until the 80's, Black Flag didn't acquire Rollins until 1981, and are considered 80's punk, Bad Brains' first album was in 1982, and the Ramones were the bridge between 80's and "protopunk" if that's what you want to call it.

Releasing an album doesn't mean shit for what type of music they played. Misfits still had singles out as early as 77. Ramones, Sex Pistols and Clash are essentially the first punk bands and there really wasn't much of a bridge between them and the 80's bands like Dead Kennedy's (although what you call 80's bands still all started in the 70's).  

Bands MC5 and Velvet Underground and such weren't actually punk, although many turned into punk.

But point being, you can't call the Clash punk and say Black Flag isn't. They're both just as punk as the other.  The Clash was only a year prior or something and never released their first album/single till the same year the Misfits did.

I don't really have enough time right now to read myself, but I bet Wikipedia has a pretty awesome history of punk.

ehhhhhhh It was more like a "that's not a knife, this is a knife" statement. I know well that Black Flag is punk, I should probably make that clear lol. I was mostly saying I prefer that skinny white boy punk to the meathead Dead Kennedy's punk style.

Ben is most inspired by the less rigid music of Rush and Dream Theater, which gives him free reign to his own creative impulses.

lulz. that's like saying I'm inspired by the less rigid violining of composers such as Tchaikovsky and Bach because traditional Celtic and Hungarian and whatever are way too strict and don't let you play at all what you want.
