Does anyone use twitter?

I'm interested. I'm not quite sure where I stand on twitter. I mean I get that its this super cool social media thing... but it seems a little weird to me at times.

Maybe I'm getting too old or something like that.

What are your thoughts?

We changed the twitter feed on the homepage to crawl for tweets to #newschoolers. So if you're a twitter-aholoic... then go for it.

Its kind of like having quickchat back. :)

i'm still kind of on the fence about twitter. people told me 'its just the status update part of facebook and nothing else", and at first i thought that was pretty dumb. but after i thought about it for a bit, status updates are just about the only part of facebook i use, so i made a twitter. BUT, then i also realized that on facebook my friends can actually see my updates, whereas almost no one has a twitter

soooo ya, the jury's still out on twitter for me

when it comes to sports also, nothing beats twitter. Sitting in class having the red sox and arsenal scores sent to my phone was awesome.

it's great to use, but most people misunderstand/misuse it.

people, especially old ones, seem to think it is the new "hip" thing and all the young people are doing it, but i don't use it, and don't really know anyone that does.
I do like what nomen said though(as always), it could be a good thing

It's very useful for brands and companies to keep their customers updated. And skiiers and athletes of course. But when it's teenage girls posting about what they're doing today, fuck that

Valid point. Someone once described it to me as "a giant cocktail party that's always going on". Personally however, I'm not a fan. People tweeting their every move is just ridiculous and it has really deterred me from ever becoming a potential user. As useful as the way you describe it sounds, I'd rather spend the little free time I have elsewhere.

Yup. I always told myself I wouldn't get into this whole twitter thing, but then my girlfriend introduced me to it, and it seemed cool enough, so I signed up an account. What I've figured out is that it is what you make of it, in that it's only going to be as interesting as the people you follow. I think I've "tweeted" maybe once or twice, but it's cool to check it every now and then and see whats going on.

ive never been on twitter, and i only use facebook to check up for updates for groups (level 1, saga, ns. etc.) because right now facebook is just hundreds of people going "i broke a nail. fml." or my "phone got sticky fml," all the time i used to spend on facebook is now on ns.

im on it. initially i didnt tweet much, i do a little more now, but still not a ton, i mostly use it just to follow others. ski people to keep up on industry stuff, some funny people, and some news stuff.

anyone who tweets more than 10-15 times a day i unfollow because its just obnoxious.

but the thing is its not a free time sucker like facebook. i get tweets on my phone, so its basically the same as a text message. i read it, laugh or dont laugh, or am intrigued, and then move on with life.


same with tweeting, if i see something funny, or have something to say, i tweet it from my phone, its not like i have to log on to a computer or something.

i mean sure i suppose you could spend time surfing random twitter pages, but you dont HAVE to like with facebook. its quicker than that.

i just use it so i can follow other people. i have never tweeted. i dont even remember my login shit, so if i ever erase my cookies or whatever for that site, or get a new phone, i probably wont be using twitter anymore.

I made an account about a year ago and got bored with it within two weeks. But for whatever reason about once a week somebody new starts following me even though I haven't posted anything in 10 months. Seems pretty absurd.

I think its a great concept, most of my friends have it, and most of them use it to post those moments where you think to yourself "everybody would laugh if they were here" It helps that most of my friends have a solid sense of humour. I also get news updates sent to my phone using twitter feeds, and keep up to date on many deal of the day websites that update when new stuff is posted.

Honestly though, if I didn't have an iphone or a blackberry, theres no way I would use facebook or twitter very much. Turns out I check my facebook and do a lot of my tweeting while I poop. who's with me on that one?

The only real use I can see for it is getting news from companies promoting brands or something like that.

People who use it and go:

"Just got up"

"Brushing my teeth"

"Having a coffee, then off to work"

That's just dumb.

I use it to keep on top of local events, contests, freebies, etc (e.g. 1/2 price frappacinos at Starbucks, dd/mm hh:mm-hh:mm)

I don't use it to keep up on people "having a good day"

honestly, i have an account but i think its so dumb. i guess its good for high school girls to follow justin beiber or for athletes to update while sitting on the bench but its so demanding. you have to literally have you laptop or phone attached to you to constantly update it. i think its more of a chore then a luxury.

so no, i dont use twitter. ive tried but i see no point in it.

No offense, but that's kind of the ignorant, go to argument everybody seems to make. People who make status updates, or bitch about life on Twitter aren't the ones you follow.

I personally follow NS, several longboarding sites, and a handful of people I know who post some funny stuff.

At most I make one tweet a day, but I check It over 9000 times.... Twitter > FB

I feel the same way about twitter as i did about facebook, and the same about myspace. All dumb imo. Perhaps .2% of america is on my side, but i have never gotten an account for any cause they seem annoying to me. Also stalker-ish, but most likely the main reason why i still don't have an account for any of them is that i'm just that stubborn

I constantly have Twitter running in one of my tabs.

It definitely is more of a news tool than a communication tool. For the most part, I follow local TV stations from here (SLC) and back home (WI) to keep up with what's going on. News about the Cottonwood Canyons is up almost instantly. Usually faster than I get the text or can check their website.

I follow companies that I like, such as Skullcandy, Airblaster, or Oakley. And those companies tend to run little Twitter contests. As an example, lately Skullcandy has been hiding a pair of NBA headphones in different cities, and then they give out clues to where they're hidden. And Oakley has contests with trivia questions for prizes.

A lot of resorts will post their snow reports and maybe some sort of deal/events going on.

And I follow people who are funny or make interesting posts. John Mayer was great for funny posts, but he's not really on Twitter anymore. Jimmy Fallon is pretty funny. And Todd Richards is super funny. Along with some friends that are pretty witty.

this is true, and probably why ill get one fairly soon. i'm moving from connecticut to utah in the fall for college, so keeping in touch would definitely be a solid reason to get one.
