Replying to Natural Spinning/Rail Sliding?
Most skiers have a natural way they spin (right or left) and a natural way they slide rails (right foot or left foot forward). My question is why do people have a "natural"? Is it just what they feel or is it biologically imprinted in them?
Think about this. People are either right or left handed. With my humble high school knowledge of biology I know that being right or left handed/footed has to do with genes. Everybody uses their hands, but not everyone spins or slides rails on skis, so why is there a natural inclination to do one or the other? I would assume there is no gene for having a "natural" in skiing. So it might be just what you see first or what looks/feels right to you.
I know that when I started skiing, I KNEW I slid rails right foot forward even before I even slid one. For some reason I never even had to try out left foot forward because I KNEW that I was right foot forward.
This calls into question one more thing. Is there a greater number of skiers with a certain Natural? For example, do more skiers slide rails right foot forward than left? I have observed from what I have seen in skiers that it seems that more skiers spin left than right. Is this coincidence or is are more people naturally inclined to spin left?
These are just some random thoughts I am having because its pretty much summer on newschoolers.
These are my thoughts, now it's your turn NS. Discuss.
thanks
