I accidentally punched a dog in the face

So I was going along on my regular running route about 45 minutes ago before dinner and I was running along this elevated lawn thing in front of this person's house. Well, new people moved in and apparently they have a big fucking Irish Wolfhound who likes to bark at people. I didn't know this, so as I'm running by minding my own business this thing comes out of nowhere and barked like 2 inches from my face(remember, the lawn is elevated so it is at face height not lower) and I was so scared I just socked it in the face. He whimpered really loudly(I could hear it over my music) and ran back towards the house.


Question is, should I go tell them I punched their dog in the face? Or just pretend it never happened?

the dog is probably fine. my golden has been nailed square in the face with a door and been fine.

and if it makes you feel any better my brother accidentally punched out an adopted asian baby in the chicago airport.

Ive done this when i'm biking, except i kick them in the face instead of punch, and the dogs are usually trying to bite my feet off instead of just barking... don't worry about it, it'll live.

Dogs are tough animals, he'll get over it.

I wont hesitate to kick or hit a dog if it's acting out of line, fighting is a dogs way of determining dominance. One of our dogs acts pretty dominant over our relatively chill dog and usually eats his food. He stopped doing that after I gave him a good kick in the ribs.

He also is very protective of his food, and bit me one time after I tried to move it away from the other dogs food, so I promptly gave him a good lickin after that.

i'm a dog lover, and you did what needed to be done. even if the dog lived it should have been put down after. what if it had been a young that it decided to chase.

I wish I had that kind of reaction.... no but really don't worry about it. next time you see the dog be like, hey dog, sorry for punching you in the face. That should clear your conscience. haha
