If it means that you aren't going into an immoral war how is it not honorable. When the leadership of the military acting immorally it's immoral to follow their orders. The moral thing to do is desert.

From your line of thinking the NAZI soldiers who were gaurds at concentration camps were honorable because they didn't desert their country and fellow soldiers.

and by the way i'd bet a lot of money that I'm older than you.

ok, well from what i see in the video so far...

the reuters cameramen are with people with guns. Those people with the guns are not associated with the Americans, so they are the enemy. If you're a reporter, and trying to stay alive in a warzone, it's generally best NOT to hang out in the open, with armed enemies. You can't expect to get out that situation alive, as you are now an enemy by association.

It's shocking how efficient and quick they are though. Good training shows in combat. Saw a risk, evaluated the threat, and eliminated it quickly.

Using the Nazi guards of concentration camps is such a poor example cause if you said no you were thrown in with everyone else in the ovens and gas chambers.

Also, deserting in a time of battle can be severely punished.

but if it's so bad and you're accidentally killing civilians then why be there why not desert that way you are not in the position of having to pick out insurgents from  civilians because you are not the member of an invasion force in a foreign country .

And deserting used to be punishable by death. If you desert and try to get back into the States the MPs show up, shackle you, and throw you in a military jail which is worse than places like Pelican Bay.

so in you line of thinking it would be dishonorable to a NAZI soldier to desert, because they would be turning their backs on their country and their fellow soldiers.

My point is not the US troops are NAZI like your poor skills of deductions though i meant. The point is when your country and military are committing morally reprehensible acts it is immoral to simply go along. So the honorable and moral thing to do is desert as US soldiers should do (and a few have) when it comes to the invasion of Iraq.

The only war that is really justifiable is when somebody invades you're country and you stand up and protect you're land. Nobody is going to invade america. I'm sure that soldiers know this when they sign up, which should be a deterrent but isn't. Also many soldiers who are in Iraq joined the military knowing that they would fight in Iraq that is just wrong to join an invasion force of a country that posed no threat to the US and to put yourself in the position of possibly killing civilians.

it's a war. No one signs up expecting it to be a moral, do-good party. People are fucking stupid these days. You join the military, you must be willing to kill. If you join the military, then refuse to kill, you should be driving trucks or cooking or something. If you refuse to do that, they can find something else for you. If you simply run away, you should be shot. They may be forced to do what you consider immoral things, but no one forced them to join in the first place.

People need to realize the army isn't a job. It's the ARMY. Armies have been killing people for thousands of years. It's the way it is.

You are a weak person then if you would not stand up for whats right at your own expense letting something evil go on and participating in it even if you oppose it is just as bad as perpetrating said evil.

And maybe if your platoon lost its medic it would be forced to go back to base and it would save their lives and the lives of the people on the other side. If all the medics deserted at the beginning of the Iraq war it would have never happened and think about how great that would have been.

I am absolutely not pro war..i don't believe we should be over there at all and i strongly disagree with how much money we have spent to be there

you don't have to be pro war to support the troops...they are living through hell everytime they leave our boarders..its easy for you and skibeer to judge when your thousands of miles away sitting on your couch...the men and women of the armed forces deserve respect and gratitude from the civilians of the u.s. and its disgusting the way people like you treat them

But they shouldn't be there and by being their they are complicit in the crimes that have been committed there. They all need to leave and any soldier who doesn't is actively participating in an illegal war of aggression that has killed hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians. It is easy for me to judge because I would never ever ever ever join the army unless we were being invaded or under threat of imminent invasion. I think the people who join the army to fight in Iraq are wrong and immoral and I do not support them because they are supporting an illegal and evil war.

It has nothing to do with cowardice I would again only join the army if there was an imminent invasion or invasion of the US, I doubt that many US soldiers would be killing civilians if the war was happening here. But if there was systematic evil and murder of civilians I would do something about it and if it came to it I would stop supporting or participating in a unit that was perpetrating such acts because of my morals.

I would be willing to fight and die to defend my freedoms and the freedoms of my fellow citizens but i could never condone torture or murder ever. And what makes the war in Iraq so terrible is that the people fighting there are doing nothing to defend our freedom seeing that no Iraq ever threatened to take it away.
