Problems With Boots

K so i need some help. I am into my first year of freeskiing as i was a hockey kid before. i always used to buy used boots because that was all we could afford along with hockey but now i have bought/exchanged two pairs of boots in the month and they have both been problematic with my ankles. I purchased a pair of Salomon SPK Kreations and they hurt my ankles so that i would only be able to ski one day and then wait for a week or so until my ankles stopped hurting and could ski again. I exchanged these for a pair of Nordica Hot Rod 85 boots that were a size smaller because the boot guy said it was the size that was the problem. I have heat molded the nordicas as well. Is it just me breaking them in? These do the same thing to my ankles and i have no idea what to do because if i ski anymore on these boots i have to keep them and wont be able to return them. plz help ns

Sparknotes:
-bought two pairs of boots
-both hurt my ankles
-have no idea whether to return the second pair or if im just breaking them in and its normal

thanks captain obvious. im wondering about what the problem is and anything to fix it. not something i should have done

you can go and get them ground/blown out around the ankles, maybe a footbed too if you dont already have one.  im a bootfitter by the way, hope this helps

If you don't have a good after-market footbed in your boots right now, go get some.  At the very least, they will help correctly position your foot inside the boot.  Then you will know that your pain is not caused by your foot's natural walking motion taking place inside the boot but by the internal shape of the boot not matching your ankle.  You can then have the boot successfully worked on.

1. stabilize your flexible foot with a footbed.
2. have the shell worked on.
3. apply some padding if need be.
