they were old, line made some bindings back in like 03 i think. the whole concept behind them was that you could have one set of bindings for multiple pairs of skis by being able to screw them to your skis like snowboard bindings

They also had like two toe style pieces instead of a heel and a toe, in an attempt to save knees. They mounted at 4 holes in the middle and extended on a piece over the ski to try and allow the ski to flex more naturally. If you wanted to mount them onto non line skis you had to buy a huge plate that hurt the flex pattern more than a normal binding. They were super heavy and the toe piece broke off on just about everyones pairs.

Too much attempted innovation, too quickly, in one product was the downfall of these bindings. Line also tried to make a boot a long time ago. Lets just say they have done well when they keep their innovation focused on skis!

Horror stories have been told in the dark of night about teens knocking snow off their boot and in doing so kick the toepiece right off the binding.


They're heavy. They're terrifying. They're impractical. But you gotta give line respect for recognizing the problem with most ski bindings today and trying to do something about it. Binding technology has progressed for piddles compared to skis, and the legging is just popping more ACLs.

I think I remember reading somewhere that the plastic company that was originally going to make the parts for the binding bailed out at the last minute, so Line had to go find another company fast.  I think the company they found kinda sucked and that is why the broke so easily.

They were the reactors, they were heavy and sucked, there were 4 screws that would screw into 4 pre threaded hole that were on all line skis (see pic of my old 1260's, thats what those 4 holes are for). Pretty much all of the reactors ave melted down by now, but if you find a pair they are def worhty as a museum piece.  The concept was you could have one pair of bindings for multiple pair of skis (as long as they were Line Skis obvs). the idea was also fr a safer release laong the tibial axis.

in the ski movie wski106 (2004) the special features had a tour of lines factory and they tested the reacters versus some look pivots at three point on the ski. they bindings were at a din of 5 and when they attached the cable right behind the heel on both skis the looks has to be pulled ata force of like 100 newton meters or some shit and finally the machine snaped and the ski with the pivots went flying. it broke the machine.


the whole idea was that when skis were twisted at different places the looks didnt release consistently to their din while the reactors did. the video scared me cuz i have fks but then again all the reactors broke so yea i think ill be fine lol. it would be sick if someone could upload that vid it was epic

they gave me a great laugh though when my friend tried his first 3 and one of the heel pieces broke off, he had no brakes (from braking them earlier that day), and the ski went flying into the park shack. The guy came out and said "well this right here is your problem"
your skis still rock though!

I had a pair when I bought some lines in 04. They were very heavy, but I never had any problems with things breaking. I did get a much nicer pair of bindings off the recall though.

sigh. best damn binding concept i've ever tried, just think... one pair of bindings for all your line skis. i used to switch my pair from my og chronics on to my 1st gen prophet 100's back and forth with just a screw driver. it was a bliss... until they self destructed.

mad props to jay and his team for coming up with the idea, producing it, and then doing a stellar job recalling the product =(. if they give a product like this another shot i'd be the 1st in line to buy.

i saw in some other thread that the same guys who make knee bindings are the ones who tried to make line bindings. oh and i almost got some back in the day because i thought they looked cool haha

We are seriously overdue for some new binding technology though, Line's attempt has been the only serious effort in the last ten years.

What about the royal family? thats some new tech.... not really revolutionary but hey at least the toe pieces dont fall off.


IMO binding tech doesnt need to be too much different... bindings have been pretty much the same for years, if it aint broke dont fix it.

My friend was selling a pair used once for 5$ at a ski swap, nobody bought them and he gave them to his his brother. And they exploded on the first rail he hit

i know a this douche at my that has these bindings. i skid a run with them and they were heavy and gay as shit not to mention the skis were like 155's so they just sucked overall. they were mounted on line blends. ill stick to my griffons.

Only the Duke and Baron are really anything new, and if I toured I would probably look at those.

We need a binding with a brake that rotates in the case of a switch ejection.

Nope, I don't have the knowledge to feel safe in the BC.  If I get some time to take some classes I have friends who do quite a bit.  Until then, I get my fill with what I've got going now :)

If we were to use your advice you gave us at the end, we would have stopped making new tech in skis along time ago.

Line had great intent for these bindings, their two main idea's behind this were...

- Save your knee's
- One pair of bindings for multiple ski's

The idea's may have been fantastic, but unfortunatly for us, the execution was not. I think it was just too ahead of its time. Still, props to line for being innovative, like always.

Like previously said the reactor was the best attempt at serious innovation in a very long time, we are very much over due for some new technology.
