i just got a new number with at&t. the first text message i got was this:

I got a couple after i signed up for a walmart thing online and put my number on a ad site, it's like the same thing.

I doubt AT&T sent the advertisement. They likely sold your number to a marketing firm.

Not the carrier, that's for sure.

Your cell # is surprisingly available to many asshole companies if you end up giving your number to the wrong group.
