Fed up with x-games commentators

so besides the overall poor performance of the x-games commentators (including mike douglas, sorry mike you're a sick skier but you can't talk) Sal Masekela has to take the cake.  The words that come out of his mouth astound me.  In watching snowboard superpipe, he was astounded that the bindings of one of the rider's board "broke."  You can clearly see that he unstrapped them in order to walk to the top of the in-run.  anyway, here's my biggest complaint:

Sal- " ok, so Shaun White has clinched the gold medal, it's time for his victory lap.  He's about to go to Vancouver, he's on the top of his game, I don't see why he shouldn't go for perfection on this run."

Ok so here's the problem.  Why are the commentators so obsessed with perfection??? 

aside: they should not have given out a perfect score at ski big air, granted it was a crazy trick, but who's to say that someone isn't going to go after him and do the same trick with a longer grab, higher, longer etc.  Perfection is an absolute statement, and in the sense of subjective judging, it's isn't possible.

Ok so back to why Shaun White shouldn't go for perfection.  The simple fact that he is going to the olympics is the main reason why he shouldn't.  He is going to represent his country on the world stage in less than a month.  That should be the most important thing on his mind.  God forbid he got hurt and couldn't compete.  There is no reason to strive for a personal goal when your country is on the line.  Don't tell me that it would be practice for him because he's had enough practice on his damn private halfpipe (skiers don't have private pipes, they ride/train/live together.)  Especially after just about knocking his head off in practice, Shaun White should have taken his gold and straight aired down the pipe.  As much as I honestly don't care for Shaun White, I want to see him succeed for the sake of our nation and quite honestly his own health.  I remind you of the words of the late great John F. Kennedy:
"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."

haha the commentators are hilarious. it's pretty funny listening to something and being much more in the know...i know what you mean though it's pretty fucked. i'm sure their breakdowns got more people stoked about the sport though. my roommate who doesn't do any skiing or snowboarding was soo stoked on everything after watching the big air final jam just because of how crazy they threw down.

I didnt read your thread because I dont really care about what you have to say, but my favorite line from the x games was when bobby brown just did some crzy flippy spinny helicopter maneuver (thats what you kids call it these days right?) and the announcer goes

"AND SHAUN WHITE STILL HASNT COMPETED YET!'

God I love the bitching people do about the x-games every single year....it seriously happens every single year on NS at least for the 6 i've been around here. They obviously get paid to say things over and over again. Deal with it and have fun watching some sick riding.

Now I really don't care about the skiing or the snowboarding


When is Freestyle Snowmobile Finals? That is the only thing that matters because nothing else compares to the shit those guys do.

havent been watching. just saw the skiing prelims the other morning. but todd richards is usually a pretty good announcer for snowboarding.

they should have a willie mcmillon/todd richards commentator team for every xgames event.

Haha, that made me laugh.

The commentators do the best they can. I mean yeah, most of them sound like D-Bags and I personally cannot stand "Uncle E" or whatever the fuck that guys name is. But you have to take what you get because aside from scattered Dew Tour coverage this is about the only thing to showcase our sport. So I am willing to put up with retarded comments for a couple of hours in order to see some sick stuff being thrown down.

On another note, to the OP, I agree with the comment about perfect scores. Such a valid point, what if TJ had come down after Bobby and thrown a SW1440 Dub Misty with a double grab and stomped the piss out of it?

Its hard though because that trick blew my mind, and subsequently I blew my load in my pants with excitement.

Why is that the most annoying part?  I'm willing to be that a good part of the people watching xgames have no idea what a cork, misty, or rodeo is... one of the reasons xgames is sick is because it gives our sport some much needed exposure.

I just can't stand the way US TV has such a hard on for the US athletes and only the US athletes. The way the comps go down actually reinforces this. Yeah, Bobby Brown is good... but do we really need to hear his name every time anything remotely to do with skiing comes up on the broadcast? Every women's boarder X run is like an experiment to see how many times the words "Lindsey Jacobellis" can be used within the span of one race. I could go the rest of my life without hearing "Levi Lavalee" ever again. And, obviously, Shaun White is the biggest one. Same thing with every other sport... I'm sorry but I do not need to see every tennis match Venus and Serena play, and I need to see Taylor Dent even less. Talk about someone else for a fucking change.

Too bad the Spaniards are better at us in Basketball in almost every way at international comps; the Aussies outside of Phelps are way better swimmers; the Japanese, Dominicans, and Chinese are far FAR better than us in baseball; the Canadians, Czechs, Russians, and Sweds crush Americans in Hockey... I could keep going but I think you get the point don't you?

And I didn't bring up NFL because we are the only country that has that really.

And hell, even in things like MMA and Boxing. MMA outside of Brock and BJ Penn the 3 other champs in the UFC are 2 from Brazil and 1 from Quebec. Boxing the best pound for pound boxer many think right now is Pac Man and he is from the Philippines.

haha ya futbol. one time we made it to the quarterfinals in the world cup once, every other time we didnt get close though... we failed at that so they made our own version called 'football' so we can say that we're the best in the world at it cuz no one else plays it
