I Cannot Ski Park

5-6 years ago I was pretty good at park. good spin up to 540, do medium size rails all with decent style. Now I can straight air and do slide boxes. I

 have been focusing on big mountain\steep lines for the last 4-5 years and now I am absolutely hopeless in the park. I have no probelm dropping a 20ft cliff into a technical line but hitting rails or spinning off jumps just creeps me out to much and I always puss out.

I am thinking about trying the Windells at Copper just to get the feel back.

Anyone in my situation? where you used to be comfortable in the park now it scares the shit out of you? It's gotten to the point where I am starting to hate skiing because I want so badly to be solid in the park but I can never progress.

It really is fucking hard to be really good at different aspect of this sport

i feel pretty similarly, except i could never ski park. i was thinking about coc this summer to pick up the skills quick, but then i realized id rather make than spend money. thinking about building a backyard jib, but thats a ton of cash as well

im not really in you rboat, but i do have that feeling about taking off switch and spinning hard, i used to be able to switch five no problem, and then i cought my tips ahrd one day and bailed hard,
anyway to get it back, you just gotta do it alot, jsut go ski park once a week and you will be feeling comfortable in no time, and dont be a pussy (if you have that problem)

this made me laugh.

however i am almost in the same type of situation. i started park about 4 years ago and i was terrible but learning. the next year was probably my best year. i actually look back at footage now and can't believe i did some of the stuff (even though it still wasn't that good). the next year (last year) i wasn't very good. now this year i'm pretty terrible. i've certainly "de-gressed" over the years, and it pisses me off too. but instead of skiing big lines like you said, i've been concentrating more on filming & editing i guess. and to top it off, i think i'm going to windells this summer too. we have a lot in common.

i think that if you are that confident of a skier and you have some park background, it wont take you long to get back on your feet in terms of park skiing. just start riding park more often and im sure it will all come back to you soon enough

Im in a very simimlar situation, I am not too good at the park and find getting any better is hard. But I have no problem with huge cliffs and steep runs with tons of pow or in the trees. I have come to conclude that when I ski big mountain or backcountry I have no fear of falling because you land in pow and it dont hurt, but in the park if you biff it fucking hurts and injury is way more likely.

thats not it for me though , I have crashed hard several time and even broken bones while skiing big lines. I am actually more aware of the danger and risk of injury then I am in the park

same here; im completely comfortable riding anywhere in the backcountry or shredding big lines, dropping cliffs (also spins and inverts)
but don't ask me to 270 on a rail or do flips on hardpack jumps, that shit scares me so bad :D

I definitely can not ski park at all. Best I ever did was last season, all the skier I know are park rats, and I'm more of a big mountain skier. They go me hitting jumps, best I could do was a 3 and a flat box. I'm way better in the pow, and going backcountry.

i was in the same situation as you the last couple of seasons, but this year i decided that i was a pussy and i needed to start throwing down in the park and it worked. Ive learned 12 tricks already this year and ive only had like 10 days in the park. So what worked for me was just turning off the little voice in my head telling me to be careful and just sent it.

I am in a similar situation to you. I used to ski jumps a lot, could 5 and switch 5 every jump in the park at my home mountain. I took a season off jumps due to injury and now this year the only thing I can do on jumps is poke out shifty 180's, but my rail game has increased tenfold so it goes both ways. Just keep trying I guess.

Start small again and work your way up, don't be afraid to push it, start out with the fundamentals on hard pack and just get a feel for park skiing again. Woodward will help.

I'm the same. I'll ski backcountry and big mtn lines all day but park scared the shit out of me. I can pull 3's but often I'll wuss out and just straight air. It's wierd, natural and uncaculated cliffs/features scare me much less than calculated man-made features.

I'll hit a 20 foot drop to tech line like you said with much less thought than pulling a 3 off a medium sized jump or hitting a rail.

I just work back up to it slowly.  I mean I scare myself way worse in the big mountains, but it takes a couple days to get it back together even though I never rode park, just the jumps.

well if u got the moeny i would definetly go to copper , they got the foam pit and i dought ull be afraid to trow down i to that then after bring it out to the jumps!

depending on where you live.
jibyard it better for anyone in utah and close areas

they have lots of different rail features to switch out from.
also a jump into a foam pit. big enough to throw double into!

I'm in the same boat except I could give a shit about park skiing. I'd much rather ski anything else besides park and that's usually what I do. Ski bumps, trees, cliffs, etc.

just tell yourself your gonna hit the trick and see yourself hitting it in your head, second year hitting park, and i realized last year i was sucking because i had no confidence because i saw pros hitting the tricks and psychologically i thought they where gonna be impossible. so just keep it up, and force yourself to try and definitly start small and work your way back up, if you try too big and you've lost some skill in the park you could end up getting injured badly
