Novice Ski Advice

Hey guys,

When trying to learn new tricks, is it best to do it with out your poles, or with them. and how big of a difference is it when throwing spins. (im trying to 360).

depends really

better to learn stuff like spins with poles as it means that you will learn how to hold them as you are turning so that they don't flail about

learning things like butters and hand drags i would not use poles as they would get in the way and might stab you in the eye! ouch.

make sure your poles are cut to a reasonal length, dont make the mistake i made and try to spin with poles 2 miles long, i nearly lost an eye!

I would definately make it a habit of ALWAYS using your poles with a small exception for learning some inverted tricks.  Poles also help me keep my balance in the air and make it easier to "throw" a 360.

I learn a techie tricks with poles, I find it wayyyyyyy easier for some reason. ex: I was learning 450 on on a butterbox, did it fine with poles, then tried without and I just flailed like and idiot.

for some reason, when i have poles, i fully turn onto rails and boxes, but without them i just shifty

Don't worry about stupid shit like your poles or the feature, just fucking man up and do it. THAT is how you get shit done.

If you worry about silly stuff like the jump size, poles or no poles, lighting, weather conditions when you're just starting out it will be such a pain in the ass later because you will be accustomed to learning in perfect conditions which are rare. Obviously you have to use your discretion, but if you can clear the jump and straight air it fine, chances are its good enough to do stuff on.

by no means am I anything other then a novice park skier.. but I find that most of the stuff I do I keep my poles.. and they are full length too.. I have never cut them down because I dont want to have to trade poles just to go ski park or pow.. anyways I do all my bflips, spins, cork attempts, rails and grabs with poles but I have such a hard time throwing a front flip with my poles.. they just seam to get in the way for me..
