Quiting smoking...

So i finally started today. I got the patch. I smoke about half a pack a day. Ive done it for 4 years and today i finally decided id quit. So help me out and tell me your stories about quitting smoking because i have a feeling its not gunna be easy.

But im stoked ill be able to breathe and ill be fucking loaded (not really but 7 bucks is still 7 bucks).



I did searchbar and there was a 2 year old thread with hardly any help and a bunch of shit about smoking weed.

i just quit a few weeks ago. was hard as hell but i chewed nicorette for like 2 weeks then switched to regular chewing gum. i chew mad gum now but its good for my teeth and stops any cravings i had.

also the cravings start to go away. also i broke down once or twice and had one cigarette, but you cant let that break you down. you have to keep going and not switch back to your habit

Today was day 2 its hard as shit. Just being at the resort and smelling smoke makes craving pop up but ive resisted all day and actually skiied byself just to avoid the influence. Sounds super lame but im dedicated this time. Worst part is im sick too so not only im uncomfortable from being sick but plus this i just sucks.

I heard the first 4 days are the hardest. Hopefully they are. I have an hour long trip to seven springs tomorrow with friends who smoke so that will definately be a challenge. Thanks for all the help guys.

And for once i realize that NS isnt full of 12 year old kids who would have just said ge full tilts or Tom Wallnuts does it you should too.

another thing is smoking while drinking. that shit is hard to kick. i would guess that because you smoke you drink in some capacity. this will be the hardest part of quitting is not smoking once you get pretty drunk. and ultimatly why i havent quit all the way yet....

its true the first few days is the hardest dont give in you aint no pussy!! just look at it like a challenge and TAKE IT DOWN, you dont smoke anymore, its as simple as that

I found that the hardest part was while watching a movie and the actor was smoking Id get the biggest crave. You never really notice them smoking until you actually see them doing it.

holy shit i just noticed this the other day as well haha


was watching the sopranos and they all smoke like motherfuckers and slowly i got a killer craving for a ciggarette. while i was outside smoking said cig i made this connection,

sorry for postwhoring this thread but i had heard/thought that would be true, and thought oh maybe ill just limit myself to one or two when drinking to set realistic goals, but by the time friday rolled around i was 3 days in and had the momentum and didnt even smoke one, just continued the cold turkey rampage (patent pending, patent pending, patent pending)

Props man, it can be hard. I quit after 10 years of pack-a-day (30 ciggies) and it came down to a few important things.

1) Tied an elastic band round my wrist - when you want a smoke, pull the elastic band and let it go. It's instant distraction.
2) Got some Fishermans friends (little hot lozenges) - I'd eat one of them instead.
3)Patches
4) Heaps of support from friends and family.
5) Got myself pay TV - cost about 1/4 of what I was spending on smokes (In Australia it's between $10 and $15 a pack) and it reminds me how much cool stuff I can have with the money I saved.

Keep at it man and if possible, don't turn to donuts - I did and gained 15kg ( 33lbs) - I've only just lost that weight and it's been 5 years!

I hear, you get oranges or tangerines and everytime you crave a cig, you eat a slice. For me, I've smoked since i was 11-13 and I'm on and off with it, i'm not addicted to it, just its a great thing to have when you need to get away for 10 minutes. Recently I had started to smoke more then I'd like because I just formed habits, like listening to music in a car or fiddling with a phone, just a habbit but when you want to quit its so easy. Its difficult for alot of people to quit because they would be doing it for other people, if you know your doing it for you its so easy

Props to you man! You can do it. It's all in the mindset and you've got that nailed. Stay focused and determined and it'll be no problem. You'll feel so good without it once you've gotten over the first bit.
