Pivot heel bindings and using them

to be honest ive been looking at a pivot heel binding for a while but wasnt really sure about it. I think that the idea is great and logical (especially after spraining my ankle last week due to early ejection.) I finally found a store where i can buy them and talked to some guys over at the shop. A few of them said that they were strictly for park and shouldnt be used for powder and other tree, cliff etc. skiing. I am wondering how legit that comment is?

not legit. It's a great binding used by park rats, big mountain skiers, and everyone in between. They use it because it works very well and is rather durable over time.

I dunno how much I would trust that... I skied park, pow, drops, trees... everything really... on an old Look Pivot 12 Jib.

There's no difference between a binding for park and a binding for big mountain- you can mount an FKS 140 on an Afterbang and then put one on a Pontoon. A binding's job is to keep you stuck to your ski when you need to and release you from it when you need to. What matters is where you mount it on the ski, that will change from park to big mountain for sure.
Now some bindings favor retention (FKS, Marker Royal Family, etc), some favor release (Marker Twin-Cams, Salomon Z-series, etc) and the difference between these two types is what matters for freestyle/freeride for obvious reasons.
