Ok so a week ago, i was riding and smashed my head on the ground really hard. I got a concusion, but was wearing a helmet. Everything on the helmet seems fine, but i was wondering if i'm going to need to replace it because i hit my head so hard
The thing about helmets is that there are two kinds of protective padding, Multi impact, and Single impact. Bike helmets for example have single impact, therefore you have to replace them after on "hard" fall. Almost all ski helmets are multi-impact, so you should be alright. If the foam is cracked, Definitely get a new one.
Not true. Almost all ski helmets are single-impact. If you've taken a fall and concussed yourself, you need to get a new helmet.
Basically, the foam is what keeps you safe, not the hard shell. Once you take a large fall on your helmet, the foam compresses (doing it's job) but doesn't rebound. If the foam can no longer compress on another impact, it cannot do its job. Your helmet is toast, get a new one.
TRUE. most are single impact and you will need a new helmet and consider getting a multi-impact such as a poc or certain pro-tech and other helmets. hope that helped
