Help: iPhone spent night in the snow...

Hey dudes, so my iPhone spent the night outside in the snow and I was hoping for some advice on how to help it get back in good health.
I dropped it outside about 1030 last night, and my roommate found it this morning around 7 or 8 am. It snowed a bit last night, but was generally dry and pretty damn cold.
The battery is clearly dead, cause i'd been calling it and it was going straight to voicemail.
It sat in a ski locker (heated, inside) all day and will hang by the heater in my room until i get back from work in a couple hours.

So, wondering, how long do you fellow iPhone users think i should wait before plugging it in to charge? I actually don't think it got very wet if wet at all given the snow condition and how cold it was.
A buddy said don't turn it on for 3 days or something, that seems excessive

Thoughts? sorry to be anal (no homo) but its a 32 gig 3GS and i just got it....

i think you'd be safe after a day
but just to be on the safe side since its new you might want to let it dry for three days

or you could just throw it in the microwave

dont plug it in!

i cant speak for the Iphone. but i have found Rice in a ziplock bag with phone inside it to work well. (put the whole thing in the sun too)

but that was on a phone you could actually take the battery out of. IDK about the Iphone...

i would put it in cat litter for a night of two and that should get all the water out of it.  and then from there is just a personal judgement on how how long to keep it in for.

Put it in rice and that will take the moisture out of it. Leave it in for AT LEAST a day, if not longer.

Rice and heat works. Open it up as much as possible and do not, under and circumstances, turn it on. No, "Oh just to see if it works..." Don't turn it on! Wait a few days, a week if you really care about it.

Yes. The other thing that works well is silica gel packets. I recommend 24-48 hours. After that, you're good to wipe the rice off of it and plug it in. Good Luck.

stick it in a shit load of rice. let it sit over night. or more. then if it still isnt working after that, insurance send it in to a store. there will be no signs of water damage hopefully. (rice soaks it up) and if it still has a warrenty/insurence they should send it back free of charge. did this with my video camera, just got back today thank god right in time for a potential snow day! hope this helps

that for sure

but i would think you shouldnt have to much problem seeing as it was in the snow all night it wouldnt have produced much heat and the snow would have stayed snow around and frozen so the only time would have been when you brought it back inside if there was snow on it that would have melted or whatever. i dont know thats just what makes sense to me in my head

You can put it in rice, like the people before me said. but I just read somewhere that if you put any wet electronics in a bowl full of silica gel packets, it will take every bit of moisture out. Not sure if you have any or even know where to get them (I have no idea) but it works. These are what I'm talking about:

i dropped mine in the ocean once, and it sat there for like 2 minutes before i went in after it

it was fine after like 30 minutes, kept charge and everything

I dropped my phone in a bathtub just let it sit out for like 2 days then charged it and it was fine. But the rice/silica packet idea sounds good just to be safe

Look into the headphone jack with a flash light. If you see a red dot you're fucked but if you see a white dot you may be able to take it to the store and say its messed up. But if it is red you voided warranty and your best bet is to put it in rice and let it dry out for a while.

i think that the packets inside the beef jerky are for absorbing any oxygen that was left in the bag after the sealing process to keep it from going stale. but yeah rice/sawdust/silica packs/ etc are all good, just make sure you leave it for a long time before turning it on/charging it because if there is water inside it still when you turn it on/charge your phone it could short circuit it making it useless, or very expensive to repair.

Like everyone said, use rice. It saved my phone from the snow. At first it wouldn't turn on and then it worked after I put it in the rice

If the rice thing doesn't work, you're pretty much fucked in terms of getting it replaced, at least from Apple. There is a litmus indicator inside the headphone jack, immediately after contact with water/moisture it turns bright orange. It's the first thing any genius will look at if you took the phone in and tried to get it replaced. Applecare doesn't cover water damage and if that thing is bright orange, you're not getting a replacement. I used to work at the apple store as a genius and their few applecare policies are pretty strict.

if u go to the apple store in nyc (5th ave) they just dont give a fuck and want to get you outta there. i took a piss on my phone last year (long story-freshman initiation so i remember nothing) they checked the headphone jack, dude looks up at me, clearly he knows its waterdamged, but he just goes to get me a new phone fo free. +1 Apple

I lost my phone at the beginning of the season and found it once all the snow melted 4 months later. Plugged it in immediately and was working perfectly. but you, you leave it alone for 3 days at least. Its not gonna hurt.
