RE. Pro Skiers lacking style....

After reading that thread, I have become outraged with NS. So much hate, and when you click on any of the 100 style haters profiles you will see one thing in common...... They, themselves, suck at skiing, have no style, or have contributed absolutely nothing to NS.... no photos no videos.....

Are these the people that should be determining style??????????????? People who don't have any
of there own style??? Or skills???

Seriously all you little kids need to worry about learning how to ski, not how to hate, because
a majority of you really can't ski at all....and thats not even leaving the park.

they're just opinions man. everyone is entitled to one. you don't have to have style to recognize good style, and if you think that your a fucking retard. look at other realms of interest such as art. artists don't own art gallerys, dumb rich people do. you could say "none of you assholes know how to paint anything at all" but they still judge the fuck out of everyone elses work and give it certain monetary values within the market. it's just how it works man. same with music. most fuckers out there can't spit verse or play a guitar or sing a song yet they deem certain styles of music tasteless and others as amazing. its how people consume things that aren't necessarilly materialistic, like cultural contributions. art, music, film, etc. people got there opinions about whose got "style" from watching them over and over in movies and edits and shit. they built a preference to what kind of freestyle skiing they think looks the best in there minds. thats it. so chill the fuck out homie, go listen to your favorite jams and eat a bowl of cereal.

thats why there should be locked forums,  not blogs or cult forums, but an open forum to read, but only contributors can post. and not money contributors, people who know about skiing and are open minded enough to except and share individual opinions.

other than that, i agreed that there are pros that force style or have none, and i wonder why? as well

He's done a couple tricks that got me real stoked (dub cork in EDIAS from heli at windells) was ill.


But "style" is so subjective, it's directly influenced by opinion, hence making it it a topic that is not up for argument but simple just discussion, period.

in all honesty though guys I joined newschoolers a month or so ago after having a reason to post being that I was building a rail.

Been going here around every week or so for a year though and not 100% positive, but the date you joined doesn't give you a larger penis. You're acting as if you're superior to these people, but truth be told, lately, you guys have spent more time bitching and hating on the haters then actually contributing yourself. And for that reason, you're just as bad as them.

Go ahead, -K me, see if I give a fuck. It's an online forum.

My suggestion is to dilute the hateful threads by contributing useful threads. There always has been and always will be hate in the world and on newschoolers.

ya but how do u create something like that. I don't have many posts or contributions but maybe I know lots about skiing, or maybe I have tons of videos but im not contributing them. You can never know for sure whether or not someone knows a shit load and even if you did how would you police it? You would have to spend hours finding n00bs it would be a waste of time so just deal with it. there are annoying little kids everywhere and unfortunately we can't just find them all and castrate them.

I agree that someone's personal style really can't be good or bad, it is just style, but there is another trend that bugs the shit out of me and i guess could be considered as bad style more than any of the other examples people were giving in the other threads.

When people just copy other people's style and can't really pull it off themselves.

I remember watching the superunknown edits this year and getting so bored after watching a couple because every single one was a copy of what wallisch looked like a couple years ago, just sloppier and goofier. it was completely clear that they were not skiing with their own styles, they were just going with what was cool and hip at the time.

I've noticed lately some pro's jumping on the bangwagon, notably Simon Dumont, and also some of the up and coming jibbers. I got bored watching alot of EDIAS because almost everyone's style was the same generic semi gangster afterbang style. The technicality of the riding was top notch but it all looked the same to me.

My point is that if people are being true to themselves in their style and not trying to copy someone, then you cannot really define their style as good or bad, but if they are just trying to copy someone else's style, then it is super lame because they are never going to be better than the original.

Be yourself, ski the way you want to, fuck trends and go have some fun.

The skiing community is, for the most part, agreed on what style is.  Things like grabbing the tip of your ski, keeping your arms calm, landing cleanly and easily...  whether people realize it or not, everyone has a pretty similar definition of style.  Nobody has a problem saying that 5 years ago, Mikael was ahead  of the game in terms of style.   And for all I love watching Spriggs ski, I have no problem saying that Wallisch has better style.   All that means is that Wallisch is better at doing the things that, as a whole, skiing deems to be good style. 

BUT, what the creators of the other thread forget, and what Lilhorsey called them out on is that EVERY skier that is good enough to be in a major ski movie works REALLY HARD on their style.  It's easy to forget how hard it is to make a trick look good, especially if you don't constantly see yourself ski.  But I bet if anyone in that thread saw themselves ski compared to Spriggs they'd be like "Wow, I suck".  Spriggs is REALLY stylish, but it's easy to forget that when you are comparing him to the absolute best in the world. Even if he (or anyone else who got called out) isn't the absolute best, he's still in the top 1% of all skiers... and a lot better than you or me.

Go watch Propaganda or any other old movie ,and you'll appreciate the level of style that all of those skiers are at now.  They all deserve way more respect than they get on here.
