First Big Injury of the Season?

So last wednesday (a week ago) I was doing a kfed on the down rail at pc and my sharpish new skis caught and I basically dove into the snow, breaking my clavicle.

The bone pieces were overlapped 2.2 cm, so now I have to have surgery to have it reset and a plate put in this Friday, and I cant ski for 6 weeks after that, and it'll be 12 weeks until I'm back to 100%.

Just sucks knowing I can't ski for that long, this early already.

Hope the rest of NS is doing well.

i feel for you. I broke mine this summer, it was definatley no fun being able to do nothing for 7 weeks of summer.

I broke my Collar Bone early November in 06..... it sucks now and will do up till Jan/Feb, but then you'll be back out banging around and you'll still have a sick season, i promise - all is not lost, 12 weeks is not too bad....  Feb will be epic for you anyway, perfect time to be back...

yeah hopefully ill be able to get some sick filming in.

this is also my second big injury this year (ruptured my spleen first day of summer) so hopefully once this heals the gods will let me have a few injury free years haha

thought i'de update this while i'm injured to say that I pulled a muscle in my back...

it fucking blows but after two days i feel it starting to get better.  Its a slow proces but it makes me even more eager to get up to the mountain.

yo dude,
I broke my collarbone in 3 up in big cotton wood about 3 weeks ago now. I had surgery 2 days later and its amost my 3rd week since surgery and Im almost back. THe surgery really helps and heals fucking quick. Im seeing the doctor the 10th and I should be cleared by then. I have full range of motion and not any pain in the bone, just surgical pain.

broke my right clavical two weeks ago at pc as well. this is the 4th time breaking a clavical now. im 2 and 2 on each side. i didnt go to the doctor this time because they would have said the same thing and didnt want to pay for xrays, just going to let it heal naturally. but im out too. ++vibes to you and good luck on your surgery.

im out with as broken ankle. I made a thread about it a few weeks ago, so i know how you feel.  It sucks. The first 3 weeks are the roughest.

yeah man that really sucks...

just a tip, put one ski some place and put the other ski far enough away from it so it's out of sight. also have on ski with the topsheet facing up and other with the base facing upwards. this way, it will take the person a while to find the match if he is even dumb enough to take the time to look for it...and if they are stupid enough to steal the one ski, well fuck them, have fun with the one god damn ski that they stole. not a full proof plan but it usually works

out til mid-end february...  hopefully

and a broken thumb (wich needed surgery)

both 2 diffrent accidents same limb :/

hopefully i get betta soon

That's a bummer homie.
I broke mine during the Dew Tour Slope qualifiers... on a box.
Mine was overlapped 3.4 cm or 3.6 cm or something, and I got a plate and 9 screws put in. So shitty.
They gave me the 6 - 12 week count too, but I think that I'm going to try and do the next Dew Tour anyways. It'll only have been like four weeks, but that's what I'm shooting for. I competed in pipe prelims after I broke it wearing a sling. It hurt, but it wasn't too bad...
Anyway, heal up fast man. I hope surgery goes well for you! +Vibes.

12 days in to my season i was just getting in my groove when my ski's decide to pop off on a butter box. I ended up falling hard on my shoulder and snap...there goes the collarbone. I knew what it was right away because i have broken the right collarbone twice before. But this time it was worse, 2 plates and 5 screws later, the doctor told me there was only about 1/16th of an inch of skin keeping the bone from punturing the skin. Check the pics,

Anyway my two week benchmark will be tommorow and I've only got four more to go. Yipee... my plan is to be back at it at the begining of Feb.

ive had 3 concussions this year ya i think im gonna be one of those guys that snaps and kills his family and myself but o well haha ya at least i didnt miss much first couple days of the season

it was super snowy out at mslm and there was this pile of snow that was like 2 feet high and my dad turned and the pile just like stopped him and he flipped and broke his collerbone. he freestyle skis btw

i had the same thing happen to me.

that pic was when my shoulder was really dislocated too.

the worst part about the recover was the incision and scar tissue pain. like when people come up and
grab your neck or something and pull on ur skin it kills for awhile and then the scar tissue starts to go away.

i opted to leave my plate in after a year was up and i had the chance to get it out. it would have just
meant another surgery and it doesn't bother me too often. only when i'm lifting.

goodluck with the recovery man, my advice is not to rush anything, just let it heal well so you don't have
any problems with it later.

on the plus side at least it happened this early, at least it wont completely end your season like it would if you did it in 4 weeks or so

i just fucked my knee up tonight. i dont know the prognosis till i go to the hospital tomorow though. could be fine or could be really bad. it swelled up a ton and i cant walk on it but it could just be a really bad bruise. im hoping for the best right now though

so i cracked my patella. im done for awhile. at least nothing is displaced. it definately could have been worse so thats good. im just glad all the ligaments are okay

sooner you get it checked out the sooner you can start taking care of it and healing. it will be better in the long run if you get it fixed up

Today was the first day I was in my hills park which opened yesterday. In the 5th run I probally caught an edge and faceplanted (dont know for sure cause I got a concussion) and broke my collarbone in 3 spots... so happy new year for me.

My sister had a tib fib spiral fracture last year, which is maaaaaad nasty. She was on crutches this fall, and last weekend she was forerunning a race course with Jon Olsson. You'll be back, just stay positive and when/if you have physio make ABSOLUTELY SURE you do it. Your recovery time is basically under your control.

I broke my collarbone snowboarding just for fun on new years eve. (dont hate, i couldnt get my skis) My mom just made me put some of my ski stuff away out of the main hall of my house. It made me really depressed:(. This is the first time i have hurt anything really bad and man does it suck. Thankfully my collar bone is not displaced and is not moving on its own which apparently is really lucky. I have 8 more weeks before i can ski, and thats a maybe. In ontario, the season is almost over by then..what can i do to make this time better? I plan on going up to the mountain with my friends just hiking up to the park in my boots and videotaping them skiing and then editing it.

God it would suck to break something like that. And the collarbone is especially vulnerable when you fall.

Still, I take a broke bone any day over a torn ACL even if it hurts more to break something. That leaves you out months on top of a surgery and when you Do come back, your knee isn't quite 100% as strong as it used to be.

just tore my left knee acl, meniscus and sprained some other thing in there like 2 weeks ago.  did the other knee in same thing two seasons ago almost to date.  I feel ur pain man hopefully u'll have a quick recovery! play lots of COD2 it passes time haha
