Rail trick names

Why do we use the terms frontside and blindside, instead of (for example) pretzel and sameway?
I think it would be more logical if they were named like that, because then you don't have to visualize the trick when someone's telling you about some insane combo they did.

because frontside and blindside (backside) make more sense. plus a pretzel is different than a fs switchup

there are names that you can say that mostly everyone will understand. IE. K-Fed, brittney bitch, allusive, etc.

saying front swap pretzel 2 isnt very confusing either.

Rail trick names would be easier to understand if we had used rollerblading names instead of snowboarding ones but its too late for that now. As for what you are saying, it doesn't make sense in anyway how ever you look at it.

by the way i think the terms are just fine as they are. but im not sure how i feel about naming certain combos new names is a great idea. except for k feds im down for calling them that

just use the snowboarder term. if you grind left foot foward your goofy vise versa your regular. so unnaty slide would be a front board, and a natural slide would be back board.

well we all know backside and frontside (i hope)
i use the term pretzel as angling your skis to shange which way you are spinning on teh rail,
ex. if you do a right side 450 on, left side 450 out, you could say "4 on, pretzel frontside 4 out"
and i think i twould be so much simpler if we just said backside or frontside changeup

cant be using frontside and backside though because snowboarding and skateboarding on rails all it refers to is what side of you the rail is on when you jump on.
So a front board is a front board because on a street style rail the rail is in front of you when you jump on.
A back board is a back board because the rail is behind you when you jump on.
This really cant be applied to sking.
 I guess frontside and backside switchups make sense, kinda

Your skis usually "angle" for edge pressure during pretzels because you are having to get a little more friction to the rail to change your momentum, but a pretzel doesn't refer to what your skis look like during a trick. A pretzel is simply spinning one way and then spinning the opposite. Most people(including I) would say a pretzel entails spinning more than 180 on one way and then more than 180 off the other way.

how is that backwards. goofies are the right side spinners, regluars are the left side spinners. snowboard grinds are based on if your facing away, or facing the rail. so a front board for a left side spinner would be a left foot forward grind.

k-fed's are just a switchup (any dicrection), and a 270 out (any direction). doesnt matter wheather its a pretzel or blindside or whatever.

My Opinion:
Pretzel: Changing directions of your momentum (Normally achieved by angling skis on the rail)
Lipslide: The back of your skis moving over the rail before landing on the rail.
Normal slide: The front of your skis moving over the rail before landing on the rail
Disaster: Gapping the first part of a rail and landing on the second part (e.g Gapping the Flat of a FLAT-DOWN and sliding the Down part only)
K-Fed: Front Switch up to Blind 270 out.
Brittney Bitch: No Idea.
2 out: (270 out)
Pretzel 2 out: (Pretzel 270 out)
4 out: (450 out)
so on and so fourth.

Correct me if Im wrong.

no front board for a regular SBer would be approach the rail from the left side, left foot forward, and slide it by turning 90 degrees to the right and sliding the rail facing backwards. if he did the same thing from the right side of a rail, it would be a back lip

I'm pretty sure if you weren't an idiot you would know already that as rollerbladers we are unlikely to take offense to retarded comments like that, people with special needs are something you come accept. Even if if we did take offence though, your still an idiot and it has nothing to do with the fact you dislike of rollerblading.

Here are some questions for anyone willing to accept the idea that skiing trick names could be less than perfect, there may be actual answers so don't be too sarcastic.

What is the name given to the basic grind when you come on to a rail from the right hand side and grind right foot forward?

What is it called when when you come on to the rail going backwards so you tails go over first?

What is the difference between switch, fakie and unnatural on a skateboard and is has it been accurately converted into skiings terminology?

Now as far as I know the answers to these questions can be quite confusing, and I know its too late to start now but if we had used blade names from the beginning i think it would be easier to understand.

Natural is natural in skating therefore forward stance in skiing
Switch is unnatual in skating therefore Backwards stance in skiing.
Fakie is Natural Stance but going backwards therefore can technically be used instead of 'switch'

I still have to mock you about Lollerblading cause lets be honest, Rollerbladers look pathetic. Do a real sport.

You can call a frontside or backside switch/spin whatever you want, it's just a matter of people understanding you or not. As far as specific tricks go though (like a k-fed) they've already been named so deal with it.

No. K-Feds are front swap blind 270 out. That's it, nothing else. B-Spears is blind swap front 270 out. Ray-Fed or Ray Charles is blind swap blind 270 out. That's all I know is certain. And Super-Fed is front swap blind 4 out.

They should be correct if you ask me, I don't know if they are, thats the point. Skiing grind names are confusing and nonsensical. if we had just taken our names direct from skateboarding like everyone else we would have names for almost everything that made sense, except grind names(front side and back side, how hard was that to think of?) and if you popped off you noses going backwards(easy to fix).

1) sliding a rail
2) it depends what side of the rail you are coming on from. it would just be called switch on, and if i spin away from the rail to get on, its a switch lip
3) switch is backwards, normal footing, fakie is switch nollie footing, and unnatural? i dono i didnt know skateboarders used the word unnatural. and sure, no, "switch" and
"fakie" havent been really perfectly accurately converted, but thats for obvious reasons
i dont see whats so confusing?

Whats confusing is doing a 270 to "sliding a rail" or a switch on. on to what? We cant just call it a grind, whether you like them or not there are other grinds like brokens, one footed grinds(another rollerblading based debate) and the things Andy parry and Allen up there do.
If you do a trick the way usually would only going backwards on a skate board it is called fakie, so why call it switch on skis? and if you do a trick going forwards the unnatural way on a skateboard its called switch so who decided on unnatural for skiing?
The reasons may be obvious, they took it from snowboarding instead of skateboarding like they inturn had adapted from, but thats what has given rise to this confusion, its been a bit like a case of chinese whispers in trick name terms.
Rollerblading trick names are primarily taken from skateboarding and they are much more aplicable to skiing tricks than snowboarding trick names are.
