Shipping with Greyhound?

I'm moving out west in a few more days and I'm bringing a lot of gear, two maybe three pairs of skis, extra bindings, boots, a lot of outerwear, ski tuning gear... you get the picture.

I did the math and it's cheaper to greyhound all my gear, I can even send my bike which is a huge plus for me since I love it almost as much as skiing.

who here has shipped with greyhound before? has anyone ever had their stuff mishandled or lost? how did greyhound deal with it?

I know it'll prbably be alright, but my life is in these bags and if they get lost or stolen that means I need new EVERYTHING.

im sorry but i thought the thread said sleeping with a greyhound,, and if you could ship your bike why not just do it??

My brother shipped his stuff from EC to whistler and it all went well and it's dirt cheap. Just make sure you get there same time as your stuff it's gonna be easyer to pick it up and stuff.

hmmm... not having a headset isn't very condusive to bicycling.

Conducive as in not useful? Without the headset, a bike would be quite hard to steer...

And anyways, it was a joke, maybe someone will figure it out.

Do not ship with Greyhound unless timing is not important. I bought a bumper off the internet. They shipped it via Greyhound, and heres how Greyhound works.......

They fit it in a bus if it fits it ships......and my bumper was continuously bumped (not sent out / lack of space) for days...upon days. Oh yeah this happens at every stop along the way. So I got the bumper in a little over 3 weeks. All Greyhound will tell you is that they will get it on the next bus out with room.

my friend lost his bike on a greyhound shipping. not sure exactly how common it is though.

brought it down to the station today, online it said it would take 5-7 business days, at the station buddy said it would take 7-10 business days.

also he charged me extra even though my ski bag meets the size requirements on the greyhound website...

Also they only insure up $999, it'll cost about $2000 to replace my gear if it gets lost.

I've got a bad feeling about this.

can't you split up your packages and put insurance on each one?

you're only going to hear the bad stories.  i'm sure the good experiences outweigh the bad. 

their freight service makes up a large portion of their profit as a company.  you think shipping people is profitable?

At the end of this summer I shipped my life via greyhound from BC to Nova Scotia.

Not only was it really reasonably priced, but everything got here a day earlier than expected and it was in excellent shape.

I'd recommend them. There's a 99% chance everything will go smoothly.

oh,

well i was told you can insure more than 1000 dollars; you just have to get prior authorization from somewhere else.

so Im heading out west as well never thought about taking greyhound but looks like Ill be using it to get there now and Ill bring all my shit with me then too itll be cheaper to do that way rather than paying up the ass with airlines for 2 bags over 50lbs a ski bag and a bike yeah greyhound seems a lot better

though it is a 2 day ride BUT you drive across the country and see all its beauty

yea and you get to see the most sketched out people and hang out in depressing bus depots watching all kinds of people go on with their lives.
