Is drinking a problem in anyone elses life?

I think I have a drinking problem. I dont really have a problem admitting it. I love getting drunk and that 3-5 hours every night of the week when I am drunk are great. But, when its over or nights when its me and a friend getting drunk I know I have a problem. I really wish I could stop drinking, but I dont have the will power to do it yet. Anyone else feel  the same way?

Well could you be doing something more productive during the nights? If it isn't getting in the way of school (I don't know what education you are getting) is it really a problem?

how old are you?  In a lot of countries out side of the U.S.  people drink every single day.  You can get booze in vending machines.  Being blacked out drunk by noon everyday is a problem for people, but having a few beers a night is no big deal.  think you have a problem?  try not drinking for a week or two,  if you don't notice it or can't tell the difference you're fine.

If you do however,   well, talk to someone.

if you are getting drunk every night of the week, you definitely have a problem. I suggest not drinking. try and stop the trainwreck before you become a full blown alcoholic and start guzzling mouth wash.

its all the situation youre in. if theres not people drinking around, you wont drink as much. i used to drink real heavy last winter, but i get by on probably 18 beers a week now. it saves ALOT of money

i turned 21 last July. Since then, I have had probably 6 beers. 3 cheap fratparty keg shit and 3 delicious local microbrews. Not really into drinking, just like the brewpub scene.

I am 19 live in the states and drink liquor every night. It doesnt affect my schooling or my work schedule. But I feel bad about myself afterwards or during drinking.

i refuse to get hammered in someones house with like 2 friends casue i feel like it qualifies as a drinking problem, if you're casually drinking its no big deal.

How old are you? I drank almost every night in highschool, but now I only drink on the weekends, you might grow out of it. If you are seriously worried go to an AA meeting, but if you are like a teenager or something take what they tell you with a grain of salt, I've seen so many kids go to AA and get convinced they are alcoholics when they really aren't.

Try not drinking, if you start to feel really shitty and feel like you have to, you are probably an alcoholic.

They are pretty fun to go to I guess, and sometimes there are really hot "bad" girls. I hooked up with a cihck because of AA once, its not all bad. They really don't mind if you just go sit and listen and don't talk to anyone, it can be really interesting.

Mine was court assigned, and I went there and heard things that made me think "wow, that is fucked up, I really don't think I'm an alcoholic", but maybe something you hear there will make you realize you are. Its worth a trip, even if they are brain washing bible thumpers in concept, they tend to be nice people on a personal level.

Alcohol is disgusting...and this is coming from someone who was in a fraternity and partied 5 nights a week....It's great when you have reason to drink, like big social gatherings and trying to get girls and shit, but there's absolutely no reason to drink liquor every night. I now only drink once a week on the weekend and couldn't feel better. Why the hell are you just drinking when there's nothing fun to coincide with it? Get  a grip man.

I would classify myself as a problem drinker. I drank every day. I drank to get drunk. I drank alone. I drank with friends. I would drink while waiting for friends. My express purpose for the day was to wait until I could drink. I did so many horrifically embarrassing things, compromised my safety, the safety of others, demanded so much from my parents and friends to help mitigate the damage I had done... one example would be when I would have gotten too wasted to get home and frantically calling my father to bring me a shirt and my make up so that I could make it to work on time. This happened more than a handful of times.
Then I had my first ACL surgery and they don't recommend drinking when you're taking the anti-inflammatories. I've been cold sober ever since. It's been almost two months, and that's the longest I have been sober in 7 years. I don't plan on drinking again for a while. I just hope that when I start again it will be casual and I will be able to control it.

If you think it's a problem, it probably is. You can make the decision to stop but unless you give yourself a good enough reason, the decision alone will not be enough. It helps to find something else to do to instead of drink. I now watch a lot of shitty tv, exercise to help rehab my knee and do my school work. Go figure, my grades have been better, my focus is better and I like myself more now. But that's just me and food for thought for you.

Sorry for the novel but I have been ruminating on the subject for the past two months. I hope it helps.

i think i classify as an alcoholic on paper. in reality though, i'm not.

most of you people have really different opinions and views as to what you should drink, and what classifies as an alcoholic... and here is mine. (sorry, smoked some hash not too long ago so I'm all high and rambling)

You know, sometimes I drink every night. But it's like, drink two, three beers. At times (generally in the winter during a shitty storm cycle or something) I'll get drunk 3, 4 nights a week. I'll rarely go more than a week without getting drunk, (accept in November, I stay relatively sober during November) most of the year.

But as I said, I don't think I have a drinking problem, 'cause I mean, I don't ever drink alone, I never "need" a beer, it's always a "want", and it's not harmful, socially, mentally or physically.

There's my two cents.

I definetly feeels your pain man. I dont really like myself sober and i find being sober is very dull to me. But when i drink i always do the stupidst things and harm my body, for example, two weeks ago i got into a fight and got hit and punctured my spleen and lost 1/3rd of my blood and could have died. And i feel like i spend most of my paychecks on alcohol. But i realized that i needed to quite, so i started to take pills instead to get fucked up latley, and now im starting to stop those as well.

1. If it starts impacting your grades or friends in a negative way, it's a problem.
2. If you have to drink just to get through the day, it's a problem.
3. If you lose all personal hygiene and start not giving a shit about anything, it's a problem.
4. If you're scraping together your last few dollars or spending your food money on booze, you should probably stop drinking.

Other than that, you're straight.

you dont drink because you have a problem or are addicted. you drink because its fun, you have a good time, and its what young adults do
same with smoking trees. shit is 0% addicting. when you feel like smoking, its because it makes shit more interesting

Just think to yourself, would whatever you're doing be a lot more fun if you were drunk? If so then make it happen. Sure, don't drive a school bus, or secure bungee jumping harness', but if lives arn't hanging in the balance go ahead and get wasted.

Yeah, at the moment, it sounds like its quite casual. It once you start drinking alone, because you need to, and when you start trying to hide it from people that it becomes a problem.

What most people don't understand is that alcoholism is a disease, that needs to be treated properly, so seek professional help before it ruins your life

in case you didn't know, if you feel like you seriously can take more alcohol than you used to, its a sign on alcohol addiction.

I have a few friends who have had drinking problems. What helped for them was to just quit drinking for a while, and just stay away from parties and clubs for a few weeks to avoid getting tempted.

And you should do some math and calculate how much money you're gonna spend on alcohol in a year if you keep drinking as much as you do. That should scare you to at least limit your drinking a little bit.

I drink fairly heavy like 4 nights a week, but it doesn't affect my schooling or anything, and it's not like I can't function at night without having booze in me. Bar nights are just fun at school

answer me this OP: Do you drink to function?

if your answer was yes, than you do indeed have a problem thats worth worrying about.

if you answered no, your probably just a heavy drinker and should watch out, because yes thats a problem but not as bad as if you require alcohol to function throughout the day. ( a less worrisome problem if you will)

a lot of these answers are really good and to be honest you don't have anything to worry about right now.

Sometimes life gets you down and alcohol is a depressant so it is natural to sometimes feel shitty after drinking. If this is a daily thing though, then i would recommend talking to friends or someone about it and definitely cut back on the drinking.

There is a ton to do at college other than drink, but when you do drink, enjoy it with friends and do something fun like playing cards or beer pong or get it on with the ladies. I don't drink every night but when i do its a blast.

drinking only a few times out of the week will make you feel better and save you money. and that's what its all about. GET MONEY FUCK BITCHES!

ya im not really sure if im an alcoholic or not, but im going 13 days straight right now. and i never drink beer. straight 5 oclock handles every night... probly go through 2-3 handles a week. but i never miss classes  so i think ill be alright

I don't get why everybody is flipping a bitch about drinking when you are alone. I am by no means an alcoholic, and I go to college at marquette and my aunt and uncle live down here in milwaukee. I go over to stay at their house all of the time, and my uncle doesn't care if I drink beer. After they go to sleep I will keep drinking, probably toss back 2-6 beers, maybe go out back, smoke a J and watch their HDTV. Life is good and I am no alcoholic.

Plus my uncle just won 90 beers, 2 gallons of beer from a brewery, 26 bottles of wine, and 25 bottles of liquor all for free in a raffle, I will probably be over there quite a bit, and I am not an alcoholic at all.

i drink all the time, get drunk usually 5 night of the week, but i know i'm not an alcoholic (anymore) because last week i was heading to the liquor store to buy some booze, but i changed my mind halfway there and stopped at the general store instead and bought some dr. pepper. granted, soft drinks don't make me forget what's wrong with my life, and the consequence of waking up with a couple of zits is not so great, but i still know when i want alcohol and when i don't.
besides that, i know my limits, i know when i need to stop if i don't want a hangover, and i know what to drink for the kind of time i want to have. drinking is never a problem for me, unless it's a problem for the people around me.
