I am not one but when I was like 8 I tried it for a while because I was stoopid but anyway:

A)you simply don't like meat (I have met some people like this so ya it exists)

B)you feel sorry for the misstreatment of animals (either you can't afford natural meats, such as ones that you would get at Whild Oats or Whole Foods, or one of those places, or you feel sorry for any killing no matter how humain)

C)I foreget what blood type it is but my dad is it and he read a book about it (Eat Right For Your Blood Type) that told him that it would be healthier for him if he didn't eat meats, ever since then he has tried to eat less meat and he says that he serously has more energy. He loved meat but he has more energy this way...

I ran over a beaver the other day and have probably hit just about every furry animal with my car once or twice. So for me, not eating meat is not because I feel sorry for the poor little cow (and misc. rodents) that gave their life to become a whopper.

I find it interesting that about 90% of people that have worked in the poultry and meat industry become vegeterians.

I don't like meat that much, and with all the bacteria and other diseases that travel through it is just all the more reason for me not too.

I like some meat on occasion and have fish/chicken often, but this extremely high intake of meat that's become apart of the American diet will be the death of us. With all things there should be some form of moderation.

vegetarians, why do some of them only go half assed? if your going to believe in something you have to believe in it wholy...i.e. vegetarians should never under any circumstance eat eggs or drink milk(could cause harm to the cow's udders, i think?), or basically any product that could harm animals or anything from a company that also makes meat products and products resulting from the harm of animals

just my two cents

I always thought hippie spawned from the word hippocrite...from those reasons listed above

some people are vegetarians because they feel bad for animals being killed, or some just dont like meat, as hard as that is for you guys to believe. i dont like meat that much, except for chicken.

and whoever said not eating meat is not healthy. it is perfectly healthy not to eat meat. you can get protein and iron from other sources besides meat.

I believe cows are actually more uncomfortable when they aren't milked. I'm not sure though, but I remember hearing that somewhere. I'm not a vegetarian, but I respect people who are, because it is cruel what they do to animals. I don't think I could live without cows.

Oh, and vegans don't eat animal products at all.
Ovolacto vegetarians are who you're thinking of, they eat eggs and dairy products.

Generalizing vegeterians is pure stupidity and ignorance. Everyone has their own reasons for being a vegeterian. Saying all vegetarians are self-righteous people who think you're going to hell for eating meat, and cry over the death of an animal is like saying all Muslims are terrorists. I read that article and I know he's trying to be funny, but I thought it was pretty stupid. Just stuff like: 'sheer narrow-mindedness of these stuck up vegetarian assholes', 'You think you're saving the world by eating a tofu-burger and sticking to a diet of grains and berries?'

I don't give a fuck about what you eat, and it should be the same way for you guys. Does it honestly offend you that the girl down the street doesn't eat meat? Who cares?

If you want to eat a panda burger then go for it.
I'll even chase its black and white ass down in the jungle and hunt it for you.

But for me, I'm a loose vegeterian. I don't like meat that much, so I don't eat it. That's it. I'll eat fish/chicken and every now and then and don't really mind a little bit of beef or whatever on some food, but I'd rather not have it. I could live without it.

Meat in moderation is not that bad for you, the key here is moderation. Unfortunately, in the American diet the word moderation is nonexistant. Anyone who's fairly intelligent and has done some research on this, could tell you the detrimental physioligical effects all this meat has on the body. It's not good for it.

And with all the bacteria and disease transferring through meat, just makes it that less appealing for me to eat meat.

So it's my choice and I choose not to eat that much meat. If you choose to eat meat, then power to you. That's cool with me, no sweat off my back.

Just like you probably don't like being preached to about how you shouldn't eat meat, don't preach to me about how I should eat it. It goes both ways.

And the comment about needing meat a part of your diet is utter bullshit. You can get the same ammount of proteins/carbs from eating like what, 4 almonds, that you can from eating meat.

obviously people are vegetarian for a lot of different reasons, but I have noticed that a lot of people I know do it for attention so that when someone asks if they want something they can say 'Oh, I am sorry, I dont eat meat' and then get in a big talk about thier vegitarianism. I think that it is stupid.

people don't only stray from meat because they feel its wrong to kill living things. there are a lot more reasons out there. eating meat has possible negative ecological effects on the environment. in order to visualize this you have to think about how many fucking cows there are out there. cows produce methane gasses, yes thats right just like farting. a multitude of studies have suggested that methane gas is a destructive force against the o zone layer. take it or leave it, support it or not, but we only get one o zone layer. you're not gonna get in a car accident but you still put your seatbelt on right? same god damn thing. another reason is the amount of waste that results from supporting cows. imagine this, it takes 8.5 lbs of grain for every 1lb of beef. that might not sound like much but think about how much beef a cow yeilds, then multiply that number by every cow in the western world and much of south america as well. thats a shit load. then imagine how much space it takes to hold cattle, to let them graze and feed and whatnot - also a shit load. that land could be used to grow grain or something else much less agrivating on the environment. cows also require an enormous amount of food to subsist. this last point of mine is a rant and totally unrelated to vegetarianism but i don't care i'm pissed: in america we throw away $85 billion dollars worth of UNSPOILED food a day...

being a vegatiarin is actually more healthy then eating meat. they dotn eat barly any cholesteral so they rarly get heart disease. 70% of the worlds grain goes to feed livestock. if that 70% was diverted to people, we might not have world humger. plus, being a vegatarian i sbetter fo9r the enviroment. feeding a meat eater takes about 50% more fossil fuel than it does to feed a vegatarian. protein is not a problem for them either. their are lots of foods that have lots of protien in them and are not meat.
