Create thread->search bar?

It seems a lot of people get upset when other dont use the search bar and it is pretty annoying to see multiple threads on the same page but I think a lot of new members dont realize its there or people forget.

My suggestion would be to have a box to check before you can click "create thread."  This box would say "have you searchbarred?" or something along those lines.   Think of it like those programs you install where you have to agree to the programs licensing..

i like the idea, but i think people would be annoyed of having to click "yes" after every thread making....

maybe have it for like people with under a certain number of posts. no offense to low posts, but the majority of reposts are people with low post count numbers in my opinion.

that or have a formula that takes calculates time spent on ns, posts, ratio of posts to reads, etc lol. that would probably be super fun to code!

That would be a hassle. What we should do is adopt what a lot of forums are starting to do. When you are on the create a thread page, as you type the title, a list of threads appear in a box above the thread box containing the words you are typing. The poster will automatically see any threads that contain the words they are about to post.

i dont think it would be that big of a hassle but I also dont create a lot of threads either.

Yep, because half the threads that get reposted, are originally titled something along the lines of: "Must see this!" or "Check this out!"

i think people should just calm down with the whole repost nazi thing, if they cant be funny about it, or nice about it, just dont post, if you dont post you dont bump the thread, and its off the page faster

what about something like on yahoo answers. when you start writing your thread, it searches for similar threads and displays like the 4 best matches. thats a lot of work for the coders, but its an idea

I think the way its setup now is fine, why complicate things more then they should be. This way you can still laugh at rediculous threads that have been made for the 100th time
