help kids out

if you see kids who don't know what they're doing in the park, please, help them out. Either tell them where the mini park is or tell them how to do something. I watched a kid straight air over a big table at Alpine Meadows yesterday and land directly on his head. He didn't know how to jump, I don't know what he was thinking. Well, he snapped his neck. I have no idea if he made it but he was out for a good hour (I don't know when or if he woke up). I was terrified. My chair was directly over his landing so I saw it up close. He slid down and his arms went to his sides and he was limp. I don’t ever want to see that again.

Good point. And yelling at little kids is one of the best ways to make yourself look like an asshole quickly. They're out there to have fun, and if they cut you off before one jump, don't shit yourself. Wait a run.

what about the kids that don't listen? i politely told this kid who was barely making it up the lip of a forty footer and falling off the edge that he should be hitting the small jumps before he moves on to bigger ones.....he just kind of looked at me with this idiot face and proceeded to cut someone off on his way to snowplowing up the lip of the exact same jump i had just asked him not to hit. a few runs later, there he is again....i look him in the face and tell him that he'd have a lot more fun on the little jumps and i made sure he heard me.....and he went down and hit the same jump AGAIN.....he almost disastered on the top of the lip before falling.....what should i have said to this kid if i saw him for a third time that day, especially since his parents weren't there

im talkin 14 year olds who just need a little coaching...not much you can do about the really little ones who won't listen at all. The teenager might not like that you told him something but he will probably listen.

I blame parents who bring the whole family through the 'Trick Park' I mean ive seen a family almost have a picnic on the terrain park I mean I for one have landed on kids before and it sucks for everyone.

I saw the kid get carted off. One patroller said he was conscious and was talking. Sadly, I heard from some kid he died on the way to the hospital. Though, I'm not 100% positive the kid is a reliable source.

a lot of parks are in grave danger because of accidents like this. for example killington has had soo many injuries this season from unexperienced riders that shouldn't be in the park breaking bones or knocking themselves out that their insurance company may not give them insurance next winter. mountains want to provide us with parks but at the same time the amount they have to pay for insurance is sky-rocketing.

yeah, telling kids stuff in the park is definately a good idea, all the 14 year olds at lab can out jump everyone though, fucking kids have elastic bones

yeah, it gets really annoying too when the parents stand next to the jump and watch their kids frig it up. mostly its the parents fault as usuall, and not the mountains. still its sad to see them get hurt like that.


Why don't you take a long walk on a short peir.

i seriously wonder why old people, not just parents, ignore the 'Terrain Park' sign with a double black diamond symbol and just ski it like the bunny slope. its one thing if you want to watch or something, but just skiing it like any other trail is kind of irritating.

Yea, helping each other out helps everyone. Often telling a kid how to do something will clear the landing for longer so you can hit it sooner.

theres this big stepdown at the top of the park and all the parents always stands right on the deck of it to check out their 4 year old kids walking up the jumps sideways.

Yes, there should be a policey people have to read and sign with in depth information about the park, so people understand because most of the time people in landings, cutting people off, etc just dont know they are doing anything wrong

as for the fucks who just cut people off because they think they are better and don't have to wait... FUCK OFF. I hate that shit so much.

Yeah I always try to help, cause that is seriously scary shit.

Oh, and another thing....help people out when they fall in the park people. This last weekend in the park, some lady took a digger on a jump. She dropped both her poles and a ski came off, and about 10 kids, boarders and skiers, saw her and didn't do anything. She took 10 minutes to get everything after hiking back up. People actually skied right PAST her poles. Fucking pick them up and ask, 'are you alright?'

Sorry if this seems like a ridiculous request to all the kids that are too cool to help someone.

What time was it? I was skiing the park, and saw some pretty bad falls, but no stretchers or hurt kids. I hope he gets better, some of those jumps were pretty sketch.

yeah,seriously mtn creek alone has had some many accidents that shouldn't happen. At this one table over the last 2 years like 5 kids have been landed on by someone and get their heads cut open. Last year we almost had a little girl get landed on by a boarder he was like 1ft from stomping her it could have been realy ugly. Seriously, should have some kind of park/pipe course especially at mt creek cuz this year alone i cant even keep track of all the injuries that could have been avoided if some dumb, unaware person would have thought twice or knew what was up in the park. Freakin terrible.

yeah copper has a ''kids park'' but i don't think i've seen a single kid in there this year....its perfect for little gapers, like an 8 foot 45 degree pipe, 5 foot ''kickers'' and some flat rails.....but does it do a damn bit of good? shit no

I totally agree with tahoefreerider. I usually just encourage little kids trying rails cuz thats hardcore...and like yell tips from the chair. But I haven't really tried to coach anyone on jumping or doing stuff unless they ask. Some 15 or 16 year old dude last time asked me how to 360 so I taught him that in a couple runs. But thats about the only time I've taught anyone shit. Maybe I should branch out and help..
I also yell at the little helmetron squad thats in the park though, and their stupid parents that actually let them pizza all the way up the fucking tables, and then roll over the lips. God..they need like 'Park Police' or something.
