so bush wanted to add an amendment that defined marriage to that, between a man and a woman. why? because he believes that anything else is fundamentally wrong. which is a fine personal belief if you are religious. except wait a second, in the american constitution there is distinct presence of the concept that, church and state must be separate. homosexuality cannot be wrong unless you view it to be in violation of a rule, correct? and what is the origin of this rule that comes to mind? well unfortunately in america our moral system is based off of the teachings in the bible, but a line must be drawn somewhere - refusing to recognize homosexuality because you see it as sinful, is nothing short of unconstitutional. the megalomaniac should be held in contempt if you ask me.
this is for aoe and anyone else that is ignorant enough to believe that homosexuality is a choice: homosexuals don't turn gay, an environment cannot turn you gay. there is absolutely no scientific data suggesting that environment is causation for homosexuality. in addition to that, geneticists still have no evidence that genes are responsible for sexuality, despite an exhausting number of attempts. in the realm of science (and psychology for that matter!), homosexuality is an enigma. do you honestly believe that homosexuals only spawn from liberal flower loving communities? i have come across more homosexuals from conservative christian/catholic republican environments, than anything else. and bisexuality? can there not be a blending of sexuality like all other physical and mental characteristics of complex organisms!? how many times must i say this: OBJECTIVITY IS THE NAME OF THE GAME. look, kids forget what you know and go talk to losts of gay people, see what they have to say - and fucking listen to them. because in my book, believing that the legitimacy of homosexuality is a farce, is equal ground with believing that the holocaust never existed - its just that moronic.

untill you get a doctorate in psych or phil and publish some articles and do some research who are you to say so blindly that homosexuality is totally biological. Your living behind your own sheltered beliefs. Atleast I'm open to both sides of the arguement. Anyway Like JD said its been argued already. We know the points, We know what bush is doing (i think its stupid to add another ammendment, i wont get into why) so do we really need another thread (arguement) on homosexuality. been there done that lets move on...

I believe it is a mindset, something that happens phychologically in the brain. I think it is a choice. THis is just my opinion on it however. THough Many think it is wrong, including me, that does not give grounds to discriminate them. whoever does is just an ass hole wanting to blame somebody for nothing. So a constitutional amendment would be bad. An Amendment would Contradict all men were created equal, and if it passes i don't how our country would react. i would be a little scared for Homosexual people if the amendament was passed because it would give grounds to flat out discrimination

^Actually, that makes no sense whatsoever. So you have a partner in ignorance. If it's a built-in disposition, then it can occur naturally regardless of lineage. In other words, the potential is there for any member of the species to have it as a trait.

The soul goal of genes is to make it into the future (evolve), but if there was a gay gene, two guys cannot reproduce so therefore the gay gene would not be passed to a new generation. Thats how genes work, if it doesn't work as well as another then it's not going to get passed on.

if you think its a choice to be a homosexual you are just ignorant. they have found it in other species, not just humans, and if you know ANY gay man/women (yes, even though people never talk about them, there are gay women too) you would know its not a choice.

As far as genetics, it is believed to be on the lines of a mutated gene, so it can't be hereditary. If it were a natural gene, every gay person who has kids before coming out would have gay kids. This thread has been done to death already under different headings.

Yes, church and state are supposed to be separate. But that has gotten twisted. The government is not supposed to meddle in religious affairs, such as limiting what religion we can be or what God(s) we can worship. We are supposed to have freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. People use the separation of church and state to keep the Church out of the state, but instead it is the State that is supposed to stay out of the church. Read the Constitution people, read it and consider the context and the religious values of our Founding Fathers.

^I'm fairly certain that he just promoted theocracy. WOW. THe church is more important than the state now, is it? Because that's the only conclusion I can draw from that interpretation of separation of Church and state. Essentially, State has no right to interfere with Church actions, and the latter should be autonimous and unopposed. I'm astonished.

To be perfectly honest, I find this whole notion absurd, that You could believe that the founders of America intended for the church to be the ultimate authority, when that idea had been rejected centuries earlier. That would make American government more antiquated than dictatorial monarchy!
I'm shocked that there are people who think this is feasible. Especially since the most obvious result would be the enforcement of Christian ideals on members lf minority religions. Have you no respect at all for people whose opinions differ from your own? You would have everyone act in accordance with what you believe, and I'll say it again, I'm absolutely astounded that there are people so obtuse as to think that they know what's best for the world.

And to back up what I just said, I'm going back to John Stuart Mill (who I've been using a lot lately), who asserts that no government can reasonably make a law that is intended to promote human happiness or the good of the individual, which is what is proposed with this amendment; the idea here being that the moral fibre of the individual is protected. The government can only promote the good of the individual indirectly, by promoting freedoms, through which the best form of happiness can be made by each for himself, so long as it is not at the expense of others.
This is and has been the mainstay of worldwide political thought for over 200 years. How informed are you? Besides a strange reading of the constitution and the bible, what do you know of political ethics? Because I don't understand how your position is defensible (the statement 'This is my belief' not being a defense).
