We know many of our iPhone customers are eager for an update on our rollout schedule for Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS). We’ve been working for the past several months to prepare our systems and network to ensure the best possible experience with MMS when it launches – and that launch date is: September 25 for iPhone 3G and 3GS customers. MMS will be enabled through a software update on that day.

We know that iPhone users will embrace MMS. The unique capabilities and high usage of the iPhone’s multimedia capabilities required us to work on our network MMS architecture to carry the expected record volumes of MMS traffic and ensure an excellent experience from Day One. We appreciate your patience as we work toward that end.

We’re riding the leading edge of smartphone growth that’s resulted in an explosion of traffic over the AT&T network. Wireless use on our network has grown an average of 350 percent year-over-year for the past two years, and is projected to continue at a rapid pace in 2009 and beyond. The volume of smartphone data traffic the AT&T network is handling is unmatched in the wireless industry. We want you to know that we’re working relentlessly to innovate and invest in our network to anticipate this growth in usage and to stay ahead of the anticipated growth in data demand, new devices and applications for years to come.

Still pissed that first gen iphone users still wont be able to send picture messages.  How hard is it really? Looks like I'll be jailbreaking my iphone.

i have the blackberry tour and it has been great. I'd rather an iphone but I refuse to go with att...they are such crooks (ie, texting rip offs)

if you have a tour i am assuming that you use verizon. verizon and att and have very same plans. just an fly.

There is an app off cydia that lets you send mms already.

And Verizon isn't a ripoff for texting?

When you think abouot the amount of data that is sent over the network with an SMS, everything we pay right now is ridiculous.

I've had legit MMS on my Jailbroken Iphone 3g since the unlock for 3.0 came out. If anyone has a jailbroken one search youtube for the data you need to put in and it works perfect and its not an app of cydia.

Wireless phone companies are total monopolies, just like the oil companies.  They know they can charge astronomical prices and get away with it because they are the only providers and everyone else is doing it.  No one has any options.  The whole contract thing really pisses me off that they make you pay a ridiculous amount when you cannot upgrade.  Everything about wireless phone companies is ridiculous.  Just like all the big oil guys, they just laugh as America continues to buy their products for stupid high prices.  Apple is smart but scummy at the same time.  They could have easily made the iPhone send pictures when the first gen. came out, but they chose not too because that way each time they add a simple thing like picture messaging, it is easy to add, seems revolutionary, and everyone will want that latest addition.  It is smart marketing and that is how Apple always has been.  Right off the top of my head I could come up with ten things to add to an iPhone or iPod.  They could have added a camera to an iPod years ago, but chose not to because they would save the idea for the future.  America is full of people who don't get how shit works.

im already able to send mms without jailbreak?? is it jsut because its AT&T?

I'm glad i don't have an iPhone.  Apple is being a bunch of douchenozzles making people buy new phones to get features that, as you said, should have been there all along.
MMS in the second and third gens only?
Video recording in 3rd gen only?
Come on, really???  Every phone made today except the very basic ones have these features.  And then you want to try to keep people from jailbeaking to get these features?

I probably shouldn't just shit on apple though, because everyone else is just as bad.  Why should I have to buy ringtones from VCast?  Why can't I put my own on my phone without hacking it?  Why am I paying THIS MUCH for SMS?  Why do you want to make me pay $400 for a new cell phone if I break mine in the middle of my contract period (it's happened to me, now I'm back to an old RAZR again)? 

These are the question we, as consumers, need to be asking, but nothing's gonna change because the general public is too stupid to realize they're getting ripped off.
