Have you ever given up something to ski?

SO I was just chillin drinking a beer (or two)....

I started to think of everything I have given up to ski. I mean, my family all lives in Florida, I gave up a $75k a year promotion, live in a studio< (yea its sun valley but i do not know anyone).

WHy?

Man, the feeling of being out on the mountain with all the white covered trees after a fresh snow fall, the crisp cold feeling in the morning, ripping down past ski patrol (I do respect them, im no punk). Looking forward to hearing the "click" sound from the boots meeting the bindings. being up in the trees where no one has even touched yet, so quiet you can actually hear the cold air. man, im ready to ski.

but all definitely worth it.

i go to a ski racing academy and that was a huuuuuge decision, i gave up a ton of stuff but it was definitely the right decision for me.

haha yes!  this happend to me too except i was the one to ask her to the dance,  my buddy asked me to go skiing that weekend just 2 days before the dance, she had her dress all picked out and everything and i told her i wasnt going the day before it too haha,  bitch got the boot!

definitely given up a whole lot for skiing. Money, friends, girls, pretty much everything everyone here has said before. This is the only sport that I have come inches away from losing my life to, only to come back next season twice as addicted and determined to improve. I'm not gonna lie, but sometimes during ski movies i almost get a little teary eyed thinking about how much this sport means to me, and the experiences I am fortunate enough to have because of it. Sure I have given some stuff up for skiing, but skiing has given it all back tenfold. God dammit i love skiing.

now that i think about it, i ahvent given up much of anything, all my friends ride with me. girlfriend thinks it good i found something i llove, and my classes are easy than shit to pass. i only have a job in the summer. and usually get back in time for parties.

i dip out on soccer if we get some early snow tho. soccer is the best to get you in shape for skiing for sure!

Girls, parties, hanging out with my non skiing friends, etc.  At the same time though, skiing has helped me make friends, not just friends in skiing, but in general, it has made me look at life differently, it has made me who I am.  Some of my daily vocab. is derived from skiing and even NS.  It has made me a more unique person and most likely more outgoing.

I can't think of anything and I ski at least 4 days a week, every day if you count urban and backyard skiing. I still make it to all my classes and do my homework.  I guess I don't party or go out that much, so that I can get up early and ski all day.

So i just gave up a 20min with a girl, who's housr I was supposed to be at 5min ago. She lives 15min away. We are both leaving for college in two days. I'm going to Burlington she's going to syracuse. So yeah I gave up 20min with her just for a thread about skiing. Christmas break; skiing will be my girlfriend, she will be my hobby.

word. such a hard descison for me. Played since i was like 7, atom development then peewee AA, Bantam AA pretty high level but huge commitment. Then one year in tryouts i just got pissed off with the coaches and politics if you will of the hockey and when the coach gave me the letter to continue to the next round of cuts I said no and quit after that. Still love hockey and pond-hockey but just would rather ski now.

i played soccer for 11 years until my soccer coach (athletic adviser in high school) told me to chose one sport. I told him soccer was a summer sport and I ski in the winter. I ended up quitting my junior year after winning states and decided to move out to Colorado after school. Now im in college out West getting over 100 days a year and goin to school.

ive given up on girls for skiing but most of all, grades.  second, third quarter they drop significantly, then go back up 4th haha.

3 years ago, I quit a job in upstate NY and dropped all the money I saved to go live in an extended stay hotel in SLC for 10 weeks to ski Snowbird everyday. I saved up enough money to support the whole trip. I left my girlfriend, now wife, and stayed there all alone. I had some visitors but i was on my own completely. Thank god my wife let me do it back then! It was the best time of my entire life. Dropped $6000 doing it, had no car, lived in the shadiest extended stay hotel, rode UTA everywhere, eat absolute garbage for food, but it was amazing to finally live the dream.

When it was done I returned east to Philly with hopes to move with my wife out west again or up to vermont.
