Goggles under helmets

Ok everyone. I already know im going to get soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much crap about this, so don't even bother. First of, im just spreading some information and im not trying to be all ranty. Secondly, I know alot of people are going to call me a safety freak and a mommy, but all I am trying to do is let the word out to people who don't know about this issue and may be concerned.

Anyway. Alot of people now wear their goggles and beanie under their helmet as a style issue. Im not going to lie, i do think it looks pretty thug, but there is a safety issue with that. The beanie under the helmet dosn't let it sit properly on your head as it is meant to. This can cause the helmet to fail in protecting you from a crash that may have been prevented by properly wearing your helmet. My ski team dosn't let people wear hats under their helmet for this issue, and one competition i went do they wouldnt let anyone compete with out their goggles over their helmet. So my point is, if you are going to bother wearing a helmet, you might as well wear it right. and besides you can still look good with goggles over the helmet, and if you do need to continue wearing them like that, very thin under armour caps are alot better than the tall beanie.

(or you can just not take my advice)

But i will say it again, why wear a helmet if your going to wear it in an unsafe way?

to the last question, it still does do some good, so if people care enough to have some protection but do also want to look cool that may be a solution. just because it isn't AS safe doesn't mean you should just not wear one all together. i do agree though that a properly fitting beanie is going to make it fit much better than a tall beanie.

no. you need to have some steeze with your helmet/goggle just use a thin hat and its all good

I get wat ur sayin man but like I think if the beanie isn`t one of those condom tops and your helmet doesn`t move around on your head, the beanie should provide extra cushion for those hard hits.

yea basically that was one of the last things i said. A properly fitting beanie is fine, just not one that makes your helmet sit a foot above your head with a giant goggle gap.

you dont have to wear a beanie under the helment. to some peoples surprise helmets can be warm and comfortable. i wear my goggles under my helmet but no hat and it works well!

I don't wear a beanie under but I put my gogglers under my helmet, just because it fits better. A hat just won't fit under my helmet.

I had my goggles and a hat under my helmet all year and i crashed and hit my head really hard and broke my helmet in half but i was fine so i figure it still served its purpose.

wear my armada hat and my goggles under my helmet, and it has still saved me quite a few times from really bad injuries.

My helmet didnt fit with a beanie so i took out the helmet padding and now it fits great with a beanie and goggles under it.

Seems like the same as if i wore it without the beanie and with padding. You know?

Meh, its snow.  10 years ago nobody even wore helmets.  When I started skiing I remember helmets weren't even an issue.  I barely wear mine, I always bring it up with me, and then only wear it if I've been drinking or if I just feel like I'm going to do something stupid and fuck myself up, or trying new tricks I know I probably won't land.  I bought a size bigger so it fits over my beanie though, and its sort of funny because I mostly use it for longboarding so I always have to wear a beanie when I'm bombing a hill.

The helmets still does something. Its not like just because the helmet is a little off on your head it wont do a thing.

jokes but ya thats true i never thought about it like that. of course you could just size up which would make the helmet be deeper?

I get your point and i understand what you mean, but wouldnt putting a hat under your helmet make it tighter to your head making it move less making it safer? i know that when i put a condom hat under my helmet it sits better. a smaller hat makes my helmet move alot more. so im hesitant about what your saying...

I wear my goggle straps over my helmet with a beanie under my helmet and my helmet fits fine.

the helmet will do more on your head with a beanie then not having one at all. some helmet companies are makining helmets to accomidate beanies being under them

not really.
i would like to live past the age of 20 and without brain damage.
freeskiing is a dangerous sport, its smart to protect your dome.
so i choose to wear my helmet in the park, not so much when i am instructing though.

i dont buy people's beanie argument, either you think it looks cooler or you bought a helmet too big.  As far as the goggles go I can understand why some people wear it underneath because I know my strap is a little bit too tight with a helmet so sometimes i get some gnarly lines on my face but i put up with it

I take the liner out of my helmet and replace it with a hat. It's merely a replacement of fabric.

I had to take all the padding out of my helmet to fit a toque under and then it just looked ridiculous and rendered it useless.
that being said, I think the sagged helmet look is rad and it's all up to the individual rider.

in no way does it look "Thug" I never saw tupac wearing gogs under the helmet.  In my opinion, it does look better, when the goggle strap is all streched out and disfigured it takes alot away from them.  To be under the helmet, the full helmet is shown in all its glory along with the goggles, plus, its warmer and more comfortable

damn thats gay. my aunt is head of ski patrol so she wouldn't let me ride without a helmet, but thats avoidable becuase shes not always in the park. i guess our park sucks enough that it doesnt matter anyway.

i wear a really thin non condom beanie so i really doubt it makes too much of a difference. as long as you buy a helmet that compensates for that extra space your fine. as someone said as long as its not moving around your head, or sitting on top of your head cuz its too small, i think your fine.

And Bern makes their helmets for beanies/gogs underneath.  I like under the helmet because it's warmer and when I have them over the strap pushes on the earpads and at the end of the day I can't touch my ears because they hurt from being pressed on.  I don't know if that happens to anyone else?

you raise a valid point man if your wearing it wrong just to look cool it defeats the purpose but hey thats someone's personal choice. Just like wearing the helmet in the first place. You do have to keep in mind though that sometimes you can wear the goggles and hat under your helmet and it will fit perfectly. So the whole helmet debacle whether you wear one or not/ wear one and wear it wrong/ or wear one and wear it right is really just personal prefference. So is skiing in general haha do what you want just keep in mind what can happen.
