Open Source Alternatives to Adobe Creative Suite

FREE ALTERNATIVES TO ADOBE PRODUCTS

We all know Adobe is going to acquire Macromedia, and you’ve probably also read blogs guessing as to why Adobe suddenly felt the need to pay 3.4 billion dollars to secure their monopoly. Comments are piling up, some positive and some negative.

If I were to comment on the deal, it would be on the negative side. I just don’t believe in monopolies… Therefore I have compiled a small list of free alternatives to some of the software packages the two companies maintain. Most of what you need will be on there.

Programs include:

Gimp (Photoshop alternative)
Inkscape (Illustrator alternative)
Bluefish (Dreamweaver alternative)
Blender3D (Maya alternative)

I like opensource crap, and almost everything im using now is opensource. But there really isnt any capable video editor, anywhere near After Effects or Premiere, thats opensource, or for linux either.

Blender is an amazing program however.

the excerpt was taken from the article which was published a while ago. I was looking for open source programs and that page had a nice list with descriptions and links. Unfortunately the company i work for does not want to buy illustrator and thinks everything can be done in Photoshop.. idiots..

 Im sure the article is outdated but the software is good that it talks about. happy designing.

like most things adobe also bought indesign in like 1994

and the company that made the old indesign bought the company that made after effects so adobe bought the company that had indesign and after effects....

seems like a good thing that they buy all this software... you can buy packages from adobe that would probably save a lot of money if you had to buy the software individually

just my two cents regarding adobes "monopoly"
