Ok there aren't drunk rednecks but they have the European equivalent...and honestly, i dont LIKE nascar, but ive been to a nascar race, and there's something to be said for the party atmosphere. it is a LOT of fun to go to those things and drink all day and gamble and meet all kinds of weird fuckheads.
and as far as Le Mans, i agree with everything. it's so awesome that theyve got all those different classes racing simultaneously, it's one of the purest and most exciting events in motorsports because of all the factors that make it DIFFERENT from practically every other race out there.
bottom line, endurance racing is the sickest form of the sport, whether we're talking about a dakar/baja style rally, a cross country cannonball run, or something like Le Mans.
My friend and I are talking about starting an amateur race team when we're older as a summer hobby and only doing endurance races. when i say "older" i mean when we can REALLY afford to blow money on cars. he's already making good money as a first-year petroleum engineer at ConocoPhillips and he's about to buy a brand new M3...but it's going to be a few years until i get through law school and am able to compete with that...
"Just ahead, over the rolling wheatfields all golden beneath the distant snows of Estes, I'd be seeing old Denver at last. I pictured myself in a Denver bar that night, with all the gang, and in their eyes I would be strange and ragged like the Prophet who has walked across the land to bring the dark Word, and the only Word I had was 'Wow!'"
