sounds pretty terrible, if anything you would walk on the balls of your feet. when you do calf raises, that is what you are pushing with, not your toes. the strain on your toes will be terrible after a day.
just go to the gym and do some exorcises, i guarantee it will work a lot faster are look better.
at our gym, we have a squat bar that is on a track (tht is broken). I put a bunch of weight on that, get a little raiser, stand on the balls of my feet on the raiser with the weight on my back and just do up all the way, and down all the way so your heels almost touch the floor.
then i use the leg press machine (we have two, one where you kinda of push upwards, the other you push straight out, use the one going straight out) and only put the ball of my foot on the big square thing. i then push all the way and let it come in as far as you can.
we also have this, which is pretty cool.
just do a bunch of reps, untill your calves burn and you cannot go on. do a bunch of sets. good luck
