I go to the University of MIami (Oxford). Its a sweet town if you like a rural setting where the college really is the focus of the town. And I don't know why everyone hates Ohio. Yeah, its not that great skiing, but you can go to Michigan, Pennsylvania, New york, Virginia with just a short travel time.

the snow doesn't leave. my season doesn't end, I just don't go as often in the summer. There are beaches for skimming and hills for longboarding, and plenty of cliffs for diving. I have stuff to do year-round.

I know right? What does the West not have to offer? We have more to offer than the East. Doesn't make sense what these guys are saying. Yeah NH is beautiful, but then you come here and realize the beauty of the mountains, beaches, urban, etc. Yosemite will make your jaw drop.

The whole time you have been rambling on about how the job opportunities are awesome in the NE, yet, you have Hawaii marked green. WTF does Hawaii offer? Very little, unless you own some plantation or something, have fun in Hawaii, you get island fever.

Consider this though. A lot of people are now able to do their job from their home, because of the new technology. So my Dad used to work for One Beacon insurance out of Boston, but we live in CA. He did the same thing he would have done in a standard office job, but lived in a much more ideal place for fun.

Exactly. Sorry for the triple post, but this man is correct. I drive an hour to ski, I drive two hours to get to the beach. I drive 10 minutes to get to a huge lake. So many benefits out here. That's what my Dad loves about it. He can get home from skiing and play tennis. We don't have any drive way to plow, or walkways to shovel, because it doesn't snow where I live. I drive 35 minutes and i can be in the snow, and hour and I'm at my ski area, where I never wait more than 3 minutes for a chair.

True, but that is all dependent on how close you live to a fault/volcano. There is an earthquake in Mammoth everyday, almost all too small to feel. I live in Fresno and we don't have earthquake insurxance because there is such a low low chance of an earthquake occurring. Fresno kind of sucks to live in, but it's close to the mountains, so that makes up for it.

all of you are saying about how i dont like powder an whatnot, but you guys gotta think about whats actually important. i value health insurance and job opportunities over skiing. i also value being close to major cities. and awesome sports teams and a home thats not in the middle of nowhere. yeah its nice to escape to montana for some skiing but besides that and scenery what is there in montana. the capital is helena. what percent of americans do you think know that. what major companies are based out of montana?

It's all a matter of what we percieve as being important. I have an entirely different idea of what quality of life is, and I have absolutely no problem (and probably prefer) living in an insignificant little town and working low-profile jobs. Personally, I would hate having a lifelong career with any sizeable corporation, and find myself enjoying the miscellaneous dirtbag jobs I find. It's a different lifestyle, and you can't justify putting down an entire state just because of some petty personal detail that doesn't matter to the vast majority of its residents. I can comprehend what you are looking for, but it's not what everyone wants.

I see exactly what you are saying.

This is not how I plan on living my life, but this guy I met on the chairlift at my home resort had some good stuff to say. He is the Janitor at my resort. He had a big 5th wheel and a dog. For a few years he lived in Alaska and then moved down the West coast. He said, I can go anywhere I want, I love my life. I'd rather have fun than sit in an office all day. I ride every pow day and I see so many places people will never go, it is awesome. It was good to hear how he didn't worry about money, he just enjoyed life.

I view a state I want to live in, as a state where I have the highest chance of being happy. Who cares about high iq? Sure it is nice to claim smartest state, btu there are plenty of smart and dumb people everywhere.

I personally never want to live in suburbia. I Never want to live in one of those developements, commute to work every day, work 9-5 and come home, then repeat. That is not for me. If I have to sacrifice making less money, then I will.

My ideal place is near a big city, but still close to the mountains.
Red Indicates My first preference in where I want to live.
Green indicates places I would consider living, btu I would prefer the red
And Fuck the rest.

I chose a long time ago that I would not work a desk job my whole life. I'd rather sacrifice a big salary to avoid watching life from behind a desk. heath insurance is not a valid point to make, because that follows you everywhere... but I see that you're looking at logistics of "success" and that you meant that you want to be where the money is. That is great, Its good to see people knowing what they want out of life. I'd rather see your opinion than you just saying "I dunno"

but for me the outdoors are the best part of being a creature on this earth. so I plan to hike and swim and ski until I'm a decrepit old man. I love where I am at and after visiting every par of the country multiple times, I know that I'll be happiest where I can ski. I've chosen my career path so that I can have a living in the woods near a ski hill, and now that I've recognized my passion, I'm really quite excited for the rest of my days. so to get back to the thread, the east coast is cool, but the west is where I'm from and I prefer the mindset and the attitude of the people over here. the east just doesn't have what I'm looking for.
