I spoke with Mike about the Prophet. He pretty much said that unless your insanly lucky, or give the world's greatest blowjob, you won't be getting a pair. Seriously though, there is maybe a handful of people who could handle a ski like that. I mean, that's not a ski for you if your riding a lift at all.

You hope that Line will take over the industry? Jeez, I sure hope they don't. Line's skis look better than anyobdy else's, but as a company, Line seems kinda sketchy. They're so into the 'Fight the Power' attitude that they don't really seem to know how to run a company properly. Maybe if they focused more on R & D and product performance (instead of product promotion) they'd have fewer skis getting returned for delam problems. Line also does not have a large enough dealer network (yet) to take over the industry. Having owned Line skis before and having personally dealt with the company and its employees, I can say that I am not very impressed with Line skis.

there are problems with all skis. everyone's skis fall apart if you ride hard enough. their dealer network is too small, but i really like how they handle their business. i like all that 'fight the power' shit. skiing needs to be taken in a different direction than salomon wants to go or some other similar company.

^Yeah, but Line's biggest weakness is its advertising campaign. They are targetting younger riders with the 'Resist Everything' attitude, but they are not building up a loyal base of customers. How many adults do you see riding Line skis? None. And where do the kids who ride Line skis get all their money from? Adults (aka parents). Line puts so much effort into marketing and ski graphics that the performance of their skis seems to be an afterthought. I understand that they have only been around for a short time and that they are still expanding their product line, but I think they are heading in the wrong direction, and that once the kids who currently ride Line skis grow up, Line will find itself desperately searching for a target market that may (or may not) exist.

i don't think so. i think line's campaign right now will foster loyalty with all the kids that are riding their skis right now. and as they grow up and change the face of freeskiing, line would mostly evolve along with that.

^Ok, that's definitely a possibility. But how is Line going to evolve? Salomon, K2 and Rossi seem to be doing a pretty damn good job of running ski companies, even if they aren't 'rider owned and operated'. However, look what happened in the snowboard industry. Forum was a company just like Line, with a lot of rider influence, and they were all the rage for 2 or 3 years. Now where are they? You barely see any Forum boards on the hill now because the trend died and people realized that Burton makes the best boards. The same thing could happen very easily to Line. I have nothing against Line and I would like to see them succeed, but it just doesn't seem likely when they have such a huge amount of competition, and past historical events don't point in their favor.

Your missing the point tuna, Line dones't market toward adults and build that base because thats not what they are. The major market of people buying Line is younger people who want something differnet then what they're parents and adults are using. They have built a loyal base. To market to adults goes against what the loyal Line customers wants, thus breaking their base.

Ok west, that makes sense. But what happens when a new trendy ski company comes along (i.e. Armada, 4FRNT, Ninthward, or who knows what else)? Will the kids still stay loyal to Line? Or will they see the newest, coolest company and then ask for those skis for Christmas? I think Line has a REPUTATION with younger skiers, but not a LOYAL CUSTOMER BASE. Kids are easily influenced and don't have much money, so it's risky for a company to market specifically to younger people. I'm not saying it won't work, but it's not necessarily the smartest business move either.

^No twin tip company has a loyal customer base. Line is the only one even making an atempt to have one. Line skis don;t have as many problams as you think. They started out with problem just like Armada is now. Line skis have inmproved like 110%. Your comments make no sense whatsoever

Line actually does put a lot into R & D. They're making a binding. They put in the carbon ollie band. They're doing good stuff.

I'd like to say that Line is marketing toward loyalty of its customers take the Royal army for instance.
I also know that Line is putting a lot of effort in R&D. When I work at the factory I saw a lots of prototypes that wont even make it in production but its part of the progress in making better skis. The engineers also take a lot of time on testing the products and making it better and better.

dude, those skis are strictly for powder. i bet you need at least a few feet fresh powder to get those to work well. you oculdnt control those on groomers at all.

line is my fave ski company by quite a bit. tuna u r dumb. if i saw some old fuck on motherships or 1260s i would go kick his ass and steal his skis. and soloman, k2 and dynastar have been around for so long there is no way they were as successfull as line is when they were 8yrs old. u are fucking stupid as fuck

Those might be pushing the fat ski a little to far. Maybe, I duno, I would have to (and want to) try them out. If you tried skiing anything but 3 feet of fresh with those you would fall on your ass. You wouldnt even be able to put them on edge with out falling over.

But on a lighter note..... is that huge ski in the picture really the Prophet? Cuz in the Line video from the Las Vegas tradeshow that I saw on biglines.com, they show a different ski and call it the Prophet. It's still huge, but not as huge as the one in the pic in this thread. I'm confused.

Nobody need ski's that are that fucking huge. Personally I'd say that anything over 95mm waist is too big, by having a ski that is as big as the profet I think it would make it harder to ski on than a narrower ski. Anyways props to pollard for being able to handle skiing on two snowboards at the same time.
I have a theory that all retards have one long tendon that goes from wrist to wrist, so therefore that is why they always are screwin around with one wrist up, and the other one down.

i ski at hood, which is where pollard skis a lot of the time, and ive seen the skis in person and they are sooo wide its unbelieveable. the graphics on top are crazy too, handrawn by pollard. seeing someone as good as him ski in person is really amazing.

Also when you have skis that big, where the fuck do you get brakes wide enough to fit over those. Or are you to assume that if your ski comes off in the amount of powder that you would need to use those skis in, that loosing a ski would be the least of your problems?

kjfreerider, you're mistaken. k2 was probably WAY more successful than Line when they were 8 years old. k2 was the first company to manufacture a fiberglass ski. they revolutionized the way skis are made.

ok, first off, kj, you need to pack your bags and get the hell out of here. you are the one of the main reasons people hate lines. now let me explain why. when you bitch at people like that, telling them line is the shit, the only shit and if you don't think so your fucking stupid. go to hell. people like different things. that's why there are so many companies out there. for example, i hate the pocket rockets. they don't ride well under my foot. but motherships handle soo much better under foot than pocket rockets. FOR ME. My buddy is the opposite, the pocket rockets tend to feel better under foot for him. So telling people to fuck off alienates not only you for being the biggest asshole on the site, but builds a very non-loyal base of people that hate line because of the people that ski them. Line is trying to market to a general mass, but i would say 90 percent goes toward the youth. What happens when all these people that are 20 now turn into the mid to late twenties or thirties? that's why they are coming out with a broader base of skis, but keeping the main advertising on twin tips. when people get older, you want to keep them on your skis. some people will stay on twins, others will migrate over to a ski that handles better on the groomers, more of a gs style cutting ski. Personaly i love lines. they are the only skis i ski on. but the market has soo many new fat twins out there that if line (or any other company out there) doesn't keep up on new development, i'll go find a ski that feels better under my feet. and another thing about line haters, alot of them rode line skis 4 years ago when all the skis had major problems. my buddy had the first generation of skogans on the market. 2 years later they delamed, got a brand new pair. lines customer service is pretty awesome. i haven't had a bad employee yet. on the other hand, i hate salomon and won't spend a dime on their product because of how i was treated when i went through my pocket rockets one year. So take a chill attitude toward people. They ride what feels best for them or what they can afford at the time. people like you kj, can go find a cave and die there for all i care. you not only give yourself a bad rep, but you give skiing a bad rep.

oh, and i've seen the prophets, i'll be getting a pair for the deep powder days and heli-trips. brake wise, i would think someone might come out with a brake wide enough but charge an exhorbant amount for them? or just use a leash? a long leash. those wouldn't feel that nice upside the head. aand, i love skis with a 95 on up waist size in the pow. i live in utah, so the bigger the better, then you just have a pair of moships or skogans for non-powder days.

oh sorry bro, didn't mean to group everyone mid twenties on up being a old fart group that doesn't like to push their skiing with twins. just a general demographic for older people, tend to migrate towards a groomer because they don't push it like they used to when they had joints that worked. you've got that group and then you've got the die-hards for life that keep pushing themselves no matter how old they are.

You have to have crazy ideas and designs sometimes to further the sport of skiing. What seems crazy now won't be in a few years. I would give my right nut to ski those boards. Think about the possibilities of landing switch in powder with those things!

you do know that if you are good enough you dont really need skis that are that wide. You didnt see scott shmidt, or plake on fat skis 20 years ago. I do agree that it helps to have a ski that is arond a 95 waist in pow, but does anyone need skis that are the size of a slalom snowboard. In order to really gain from a ski that is 135 under foot you would need to be in about 10 feet of untouched powder that was just fallen all at once, I dont care if you go heli skiing you will probably never find powder that deep and if you do than a pair of mother ships will still work fine. I'm not saying that they are not sick skis, I just think that they need to stop going wider, and start thinking about how to put jet packs on skis to make them go faster.
