So latley i have been studying Rastafarism and i seriously want to convert to one, not just because i want to smoke weed but because i really like and agree with their belifs. I was wondering if anyone knows of any religous books or teachings i can read to fully understaind the religion and be able to officaly become one. I am currently reading and studying the Holy Pity. i opted out of being confirmed at my church, because i wanted to search for a more meaningful religon to the type of person i am. i've researched, and buddism and rastafarian are both ahead in my books. don't know i want to practice them. im still deciding.

they are nothing alike, dumbass. rastafarianism (fuck you rastas i don't care if you dont like isms and schisms) is a monotheistic religion following from christianity. it's based on worshipping god/jah and rejecting western society. buddhism is a set of beliefs built upon rejecting all worldly pleasures and escaping the cycle of reincarnation.

fair enough if you just "like what they do" or whatever. dumb shits who talk about stuff like this without knowing anything about it make me frustrated though.

do your research man...it's one of the more 'out there' religions. HIM was a great person for freeing the Ethiopians but he also had so much control he wouldn't even let them go back. Besides, smoking weed isn't even a major part of the religion. Read some of the talks by Marcus Garvey, they turned me away from it. I'm not a very religious person overall and many of the concepts of rasta fari didn't appeal to me.

how can you give someone shit for being interested in rastafarianism? like someone said, you dont have to fucking follow it to the T and there are definitely some really cool and interesting parts of rastafarianism. sure, some kids probably just get into it to be cool or whatever and blaze, but who cares? worry about yourself. religion is just your personal beliefs and shit. if youre gonna get on someone's case for religion go bitch out people whose religion is detrimental to you or others, or better yet, go scream at a brick wall

I too was once intrested in rastafarianism.

It seems to be based off of christianity, or at least a branch of it, and what not, but theres a major problem with a caucasian following it.

A major part of it is the belief that the Black man is the all powerful, and better than all. i dont know if they have general dislike of caucasian, but i do know, that its based primarily on being african, and smoking marijuana religously and what not

Cool and all, but dont just pick one because of colors, or that it seems cool

You need to study what it is about, and their text. Read what they consider their religous text, and figure out honestly if it is for you or not.

No one really knows what color people were originally put upon the earth, but i believe the different colors came from the aftermath of the Great Flood, when the brothers went to seperate parts of the earth. An example of this, is that many people near the equator have brown eyes, and this is better for it is so sunny down there, it is hard for blue eyes, cause blue is so much sensitive. Also, people near the equator are generally darker for they are closer to the sun, and the constant sun caused the pigments to change and what not, to better adapt them to where they were.

I may be Christian but i still believe in micro evolution

Ok, but the point is that people/animals/races aren't changing because they want to. They change because the mutated ones are the ones that are the ones that can survive the best. So after 10 000 "tries" or mutations, this is just a random number, you've got the most successful species.

 You've got to look at it as a puzzle, you've got 10 000 pieces but only one is the one that fits and completes the puzzle. The point is with evolution that the puzzle pieces aren't layed there with overthinking it, every time a new puzzle piece is laid down it's some sort of new experiment. Till you've got the one that fits, that will be the race or puzzle that works....

I hope this made sense...

i understand they dont change because they want to, that makes sense, its something that just happens to help them to adapt to their enviroment.

I believe that God did create man, and maybe he looked totally different than what we look like today, but overtime he developed and changed according to the enviroment he is in

i can understand how much of the culture surrounding rastafrianism is appealing...(some of the idealism's, the music, pot...). It seems that some people think they should adopt the religion based on their interest and liking of the culture. People should be careful and look into it before they start seriously believe in it as a religion.... do what you want; but i think rastafarinaism has some sketch fundament. If you against the main parts of the religion (that others have already mentioned) the rastafarianism naturally isn't for you.

As far as the people that say "well who said you have to believe in it entirely, why not just parts you like?" Fair enough if you really do that the right way, but i can see how people use that as an excuse to cheat... you can reject the fundaments of the religion and just go with the parts you like (ie the pot part)...thats not legit

LOOK INTO SHIT BEFORE YOU BUY IT, you may (aka probably) will find out that its your thing

Seriously though, I woud look into buddhism or some of the more esoeric eastern religions.  Rastas are stl essentially christian, the just interperet the bible differently.  They only are recently dropping hate towards homosexuals, for example.  It is a very afro-centric religion and I'm guessing you are white, they do accept white people obviousy (although again only fairly recently), but I don't know, you probably don't really care about ethiopia all that much, or you know, feel a connection to it.  Also, Jah is dead, so I think being rasta in a post-Selassie world woud be sort of a downer.

Do what you want though, good luck on your search for spiritual validation, I know mine is far from over.

Well after a few days of resarch i have  decided not to convert, but i still highly agree with most of their belifs. I just cant make myself belive that Hailie Selassie I was and incarnation of God. However i still belive that Western Civilazation is super corupt, the bible has been corupted by western cilvilation, we need world peace, ganja is the answer to the healing of nations, ect. I just have so many mixed belifs i though i found a religion that i can catagorize myself with. guess not. I guess im just a hippie that has my own belifes with no "official" religion. But what ever i still love God and i still love life. Peace

First off:  I am impressed at how two totally dissimilar sets of beliefs can both be appealing to you.  But I can also see where you are coming from, because buddhism and rasta are "followed" by the ski community almost to the point of being cliche.  Of course, the vast majority of these people have little to no idea what they are talking about, and merely claim to embrace these beliefs because of something told to them by a friend or our lovely resource Wikipedia. 

Secondly, you can agree with the ideologies without labeling yourself.  I am in relative concurrence with many beliefs put forth by buddhism, but there is no way I am ever going to practice it (notwithstanding my total disagreeance with several aspects...).  I suppose my question would be why do you need to wedge yourself into a group?  Another big hurdle for you will be whether or not you believe in a God, because that could potentially be a minor detail...

this couldn't be more true, i mean the reason i didn't get confirmed is because i would go to church and see how some people could just fake their faith while there, or around church friends, and then be completley diffrent else where. i mean there are definitly a lot of people that do truly have strong faith and thats fine. The reason is i don't strongly believe in it, so i didn't want to be clumped with a bunch of people with seperate beliefs.

It's not that i want to be clumped in with a group of people, it's that im searching for different ideologies, and i live my life by pulling diffrent things from diffrent religons, my beliefs are somewhat hybrid. thats why i said i don't know if i want to really practive them haha.. call it a life search, or an attempt at understanding.
