so i am in the process of making my first edit and i accidentaly exported it
i looked and its only 20 seconds long, which is how far i have got, but the file size is 101mb
what settings should i export with so that a 3 minute edit is under 300mb?

When you export got to File>Export>Adobe Media Encoder. Using the encoder gives you a lot more options as far as compression formats, frame size, quality, and size. The main thing to change is Average Video Bitrate which is located under Advanced Settings on the right side of the encoder screen. You can play with the slider to adjust the MBs per second and thus adjusting the size and quality of the video you are exporting. Just play around with it to get decent quality and a satisfactorily small file size. There are probably others on here that know more than me and can provide you with more info but that should give you a start.

adobe media encoder
quicktime movie
h.264 compressor
your video size
deinterlace
1800 kb/sec for sd
5000 kb/sec for hd
frame reordering on
keyframes every 30 frames
i probably forgot a setting but that will make it look good.
