there would be lots of different uses.. bomb disposal, land mine clearing, working in biohazard / radiation hazard areas, machine gunning as you said to name a few possible uses

I wonder how long they could lie dormant for? Imagine a bunch of them on border patrol. They could just lie there and then rip something to pieces when it senses movement or whatever.
