Why do i have to watch a 30 second ad to watch a 10 second video?

30 seconds of ads are ridiculous to watch a little clip video, and is standard nowhere
this site has so many ads everywhere I look, and im sure makes a lot of money

you need to keep your ads in check, dont go over the top

the site doesnt just work by itself you need money to cover the cost of the office, computers, trips to events, etc ive been to the office and its nothing glamorous believe me so just deal with it ads are what keep NS alive

There are limits put in place so that you should only be seeing ads a limited number of times in a session, as well as the length of video clip the ads are applied to. If you see this continually we'll look into why those aren't working for you

i know why we need ads guy,

but you need to keep a balance of ads, this whole site could be ads, my post could be hyperlinked to ad pages, ads everywhere but you need to keep it in check as to not piss off and turn away your members

The worst is having to watch an ad for a privately hosted video...

on most sites you have the option to skip the ad, why not at least add this because its quite annoying, or  leave the old video section option.

Hah yeah those were wicked eh?    I like the funnier ones... we've been pushing to get more of that kind of a thing going.  

We've been experimenting a ton with the way the ads are displaying, trying to come up with the perfect method.   We actually can cap it so that you don't see any ads infront of smaller videos.   I think we'll go back to that.   What we were trying (and seems as though it failed lol) was to make it so taht you saw ads infront of every type of video, but you only ever saw one ad per 5 minutes.  

The key is a balance between a good user experience and actually serving enough ads that we'll make decent money on it.    We're getting there...

I'll re-enable the no ads before short vids.   Give us 'till tomorrow.   Sorry about that!

Also - note that Youtube, Vimeo, and all your favorite video sites are going to hammer you with ads one day.   Right now they're all running on massive amounts of Venture capital, and don't make money worth shit.   When reality starts to hit with the burst of the Dot Com bubble 2.0 - you're goign to be hit with ads. 

We here at newschoolers.com like to run a reasonable business.   So we get the ads going AS we hook people.   That way we're an effective business model and dont' need massive quantities of Venture Capital just to survive.    Plus we can work on a proper user experience that includes advertising. 

So yeah - don't hesitate to bitch about ads.   The most effective ads are ones you like.   Also, please, please, please, check out ads you DO like.   Click it, go to the website, buy that product - it re-inforces sponsors to do that kind of advertising if there is a positive response to the good ads. 

Remember, ignoring the good ads is what makes people do shitty stuff that forces it on you.   Advertisers have so much difficuly online because in Magazines and Television shows, people actually accept ads totally interrupting their user experience.    However, when it comes to online people want to ignore ads - which makes advertisers say "Fuck that".   Then advertisers come up with shit like massive popups, interstitials, shit flying around your screen, and 30 second pre-rolls.  

But we'll stay away from that shit... 'cause it drives me fucking bananas.

Here's why I Absolutely hate the ads. I CAN NO LONGER WATCH VIDEOS ON NEWSCHOOLERS!  ITs just not worth it anymore. Yeah this is 2009 and in this magic futuristic world we live in most people have awesome super high speed internet. Well I dont, I'm not on dailup anymore as of 1 (yes 1 year) ago. This year I got the lowest speed dsl in our area.  Shit isnt much faster then the old 56k but i could let a video load for about 5-15 mins ( elminating the no ad time so i have to watch them every fucking time) or a little more for the really long ones. Not worth it anymore for 30 seconds of ad it takes like 5 mins for that shit to load and disappear. I've been on the site a fairly long time and this is the worst thing you've done yet, and the first thing to make me want to comment. I really think you guys should re-think this.
