well we obviously have differing opinions. rodeos and misties are the exact same trick except you pop off your heels for a rodeo and off your toes for a misty. I can throw both and I've talked to numerous pros, including turpin about this....so I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about.

no. that is clearly a flat 5. that one is more obvious than a lot, because it is very flat. that is definitely a flat 5, and the one from the thread creator is definitely a rodeo 5

MODS NEED TO STICKY THE TRICK TIP GUIDE FROM ROWEN, AND EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE ON THE SAME PAGE.

a flatspin, you are flipping at an axis that isn't straight up and down or left and right-therefore with TJ's trick, he is doing like a lincoln on his side. that is a flatspin, and that is a perfect example of a flatspin.

sorry for the double post, but this guy knows what he's talking about. i've always thought that same thing about flat 3s, that you like rotate 45 degrees, do a lincoln, then come back. not really a flat 3

also, for those of you who don't know that a rodeo is backwards, not forwards. please learn some stuff. i'll even help you out. thanks rowen, you are the man for creating this legendary thread:

wow I see why you guys disagreed. It looks closer to a rodeo than flatspin to me, but what it reminds me of the most is an underflip, but just a little more flippy at the beginning.

I dunno I've always thrown my rodeos semi-forward. there's a large thread on this topic way back. Maybe we just have different perceptions of forward. My lead shoulder drops back but my body momentum goes forward and my shoulders are out in front of me. If you threw back it would be like...a backflip+spin...which is more of a d-spin.

ok, so before you stated that rodeos are forward thrown.....

in this quote (your last post) you state that rodeos are thrown by popping off your heels.

This makes no sense if you are facing forward (doing a rodeo), and tilt back/pop off your heels (so you have that part right) momentum would force your legs backwards (uphill) thus forcing the backflip motion, thus not going forward, thus you have this all wrong.

misty flips and bios are forward motion (not bringing up riding switch cuz that will obviously confuse someone who thinks rodeos are thrown forward, so some other time i guess)

rodeo flips and flat spins are thrown in a backward motion

i feel it's pointless for me to write this out for you guys, cuz you will just argue with me, but you will still be wrong, have a nice day

yeah this is a hard topic to explain. its so complicated and there's so many variations.

i have always thought a d-spin is a flippy spinny where the skier goes upside down, does some spinning while completely upside down, then comes back around. a la candide thovex.

rodeo is where a skier goes upside down while spinning, while going backwards, but doesn't stay upside down. hard to explain. watch at 0:40 of wallisch's video, it's a rodeo 7


flatspin is where a skier spins, while sort of on their back in the air. i don't think a flat 3 is truly flat, i think to understand them you have to look at flat 5s. a lot of skiers do them well now, like tj in the video on the first page, and tom does them really well. but i think i like pk's best of all. check out his flat 5 at 1:01 in this video....

oh and sorry for the dub post again, but both misty and bio are thrown forward. bio is a spin that you pop forward with and push your behind shoulder down (if you are spinning left, you throw your right shoulder down.) misty is the same, but you go inverted in your spin. i was lazy and only found one video, its of a misty 7. if you want to see a bio 7, watch any video of simon dumont in the last 2 years and you're almost guaranteed to find one, along with dub fronts.

I loved getting ripped on for being right so here it goes again. No offense to anyone but this is not a flatspin.  If you want to imagine a flatspin minus the pop and landing, lay on your back with your knees near your chest and spin in a circle keeping your back on the ground.  The trick looks a little different with different grabs but in general you are spinning on a horizontal axis with you body parallel to the ground.

haha aight whatever dude maybe I'm just not explaining it right.

How I throw my rodeos:

1) pop OFF HEELS
2) shoulder check the air in front of me
3) push my left elbow behind me and downwards
4) roll into a switch-backish motion (this is the part that probably makes no sense)

I push harder with my elbow on step 3 to get to a rodeo 7 or 9.

Misty:

1) pop off TOES
2) shoulder check air...blah blah blah
3) look underneath my left arm
4) land

I can't misty 9 but for misty 7s which I've only done one of I just look harder (probably makes no sense, again) and I come around another 180 rotation. I can't flatspin so I won't try to comment about that.

andy mahre does them in idea. true flat 3's i mean.

and who really knows the difference between flatspins and rodeos. lets face it. the terms are pretty much interchangeable. maybe one is inverted and one isnt but with grabs and shit its really not something to get your panties in a bunch over. the same trick might look like a flat 5 with a mute but a rodeo 5 with a japan.

It was an underflip.

Although it was styled out slightly off axis, there was one full rotation back plus 180 spin.

Seriously.. way too many noobs these days trying to tell people what kind of trick is being thrown and they have NO idea AT ALL about what they are talking about.

People saying it's definitely not a rodeo because it was thrown backwards? Are you kidding me? Same with people saying something is a flat spin when the persons feet CLEARLY go way above their head.

Noobs giving trick tip advice when they haven't even done the trick before, or them trying to determine what kind of a trick something is and they are completely wrong in every way possible is the most annoying thing on NS.

not true. flat 3 is basically a rodeo 3 but we call it flat for some reason. so rodeos encompass underflips backflips d-spins and corks? absolutely not.

throw that right shoulder forward and roll over on your back to the left and you have a rodeo.

Correct me if i'm wrong here but im pretty sure there is no such thing as a rodeo 3, that would be a backflip.  There are weird tweeked backflips but they are still backflips.  A rodeo 5 only has 180 degrees of spinning rotation, the rest of the 540 degrees comes from the 360 degrees you rotate with the flip.
