Locking onto rails

i have trouble locking on to urban rails and im pretty sure its because i dont know how to go about locking onto the rail. i always get on rail with boots under and then slide off other side.

Am i supposed to scissor like i was going to fs switch up or 270 out?
or is there something else that i should be doing?
i didnt see any other threads like this but i may have missed.

their is no locking on a rail, its not easy like roller blading. its more like skateboarding you need to be perfect on the rail to make it to the end.
its some thing you learn whit practice
heres some pointers
solid pop onto the rail
make sure you land on the rail
absorb the rail when you land on it , like if you were landing on eggs
look at the end of the end rail

Still having trouble understanding

-you cant lock onto rails? ive seen videos of people coming from angles that would be impossible not to slide over so they scissor and it keeps them on the rail. should i be doing this?

 if you are popping on urban style I presume (from the side) and you are sliding off the othr side the your problem is you are jumping into the rail instead of jumping down the rail. Come at it with less of an angle and if its a down rail jump down the rail, not to the rail. If you just straight to the rail you are going to fly off the otherside every time.

try to land at a perfect 90 degrees to the rail, keep your eyes on the end like Frank said

i fint trying to carve the other way slightly makes me lock on very easily. pop THEN spin.

spin 90 on the rail, don't turn 90. that means your momentum should go in the direction of the rail, and you should rotate the 90 degrees. make sure to keep your weight centered, adjusting against which way you are falling off. for urban you can also half spin and half step on, with confidence, and it should work out for you.

Go in at a slight angle (about 20 degrees of an angle) and have a nice wide stance. Then pop solid and watch your tips go over the rail. Try to land on the rail so that it is under the ball of your foot (right behind the toes), not under your foot's arch (the middle of your foot). Landing like that helps to compesate for the force of you hitting the rail at an angle. Like f.ray said, absorb the rail. Look at the end of the rail.
