How To: Freehand Mount A Set of Ski Bindings

My friend (Shim on NS) and I ran into a problem when trying to get our skis mounted. None of the local shops had the jig for a Marker Jester/Griffon. We decided to freehand mount our own bindings without the jig, but with very little info on the net it was pretty hard to do. Anyway, this video is us going step by step through the mounting process. Hopefully it can help somebody else in the future.

You should not attempt this unless you have a good technical knowledge and know what you're doing. Remember, you can't measure enough times, but you only get one chance to drill... don't ruin your skis by being lazy. In the vid we mount a set of Griffons, however the principal to making the jig is pretty much the same for all bindings with a track. Good luck, post any questions/discussion here.

wow. funny thing is, i've rebuilt entire suspension systems but i'd be afraid to mount my own bindings. props man.

^^^Haha, I'm the same way.  I build furniture and I am still willing to spend the time and sometimes the money to not be liable for a fuck up.

Don't get me wrong, I would strongly recommend going to the shop. But in the case where they don't have a jig and you need to freehand mount them, you defiantly want to take your time and be precise.

just a note, I noticed you used epoxy to drip in the wholes, that is what I used when I mounted some urban skis and those bindings are permanently on there. A shop tech confirmed this for me saying that they just use a water proof adhesive like wood glue or else, like in my situation, the bindings aren't going to come off.

True, the glue isn't meant to hold the binding to the ski, but rather to keep moisture out of the core.
Yours will come off though...take a soldering iron and heat each screw for about 30 seconds (just contact heat with the screw head is enough) and then try to unscrew them...I bet you it works.

Exactly. It is easy enough to get them off. I would recommend epoxy because:
1) it is great for waterproofing
2)it helps create a very good bond between the ski/screw.

That could be really helpful, props. PS I think I saw you guys at Marble last Friday(?) or maybe it was Sunday. And I saw those Kung Fujas by the stairs leading up to the deck and wondered whose they were, ha.

This is exactly what I've been needing for a while. I have time to mount skis, but paying $40 to have it done in 5 days has been sucking... Now I can have it all done in a few hours!!! + the epoxy curing time.

Ahh I wasn't there since thursday. Had an exam in St. John's on Monday so I was there all weekend unfortunately. Not that I missed any good conditions or anything. Ian is the owner of the fujas. Didn't show it in the vid but we guinea pigged this process on my seths.



Any chance on getting this stickied? Or would that be too sketchy haha
