Bacons vs Blends... Quick!! ++K

i'm about to pull the trigger on a great deal for this year's line blends only i can't decide if i should spend the extra cash (about $85) for some bacons. both brand new. i'd be using this as my 1 ski quiver, mainly for all mountain riding in colorado so i'd be getting some pow too of course. not much of a park skier although a do like to hit it now and then (i'm old). ski fairly agresively and i've been on the chronic series since 04, so i guess you can say i'm used to stiff - stable skis so i don't know if i should even think about getting bacons... i'ts just that they sound like so much fun, but i'd bef pissed if these wouldn't perform on high speeds and on late season snow... which is when i get to ski more.

if you've had experience with either of these skis please help since i can only wait until tomorrow to get these. ++karma for helpful posts. (my stats: 5'9 185lbs) thanks.

The blends are definately more versatile, but being in CO, I would go with bacons.  I just got mine this year and love them.  You will want the extra girth in ROckies pow, and after I broke my park skis, I've even been using my SFB's in the park.  Less agile for spins, but I can still get around a 5, and rails are fun too.  Just a great all-around ski.

^ i hear ya. keep in mind though i get to do most of my skiing late in the season so i don't get to see that much pow. bacons would have to handle some hardpack and icey conditions too. any experience with that?

blends rip ..i love mine ..and i prefer a stiffer set up coming from a race background ... i have them in 169 mounted tradtional (recommended) with maker barons and i am 5'5 135lbs ...if that helps

yeah man, coming from past season's chronics i know i´ll be happy with blends and their 100mm waist, they sound like an upgraded freestyle prophet 100 (used to love my 100's).... just kinda curious about bacons since they seem like a super fun versatile ski too. just wanna make sure i'll be able to charge as hard as w/blends.

i believe that the blends are much more burly then the bacons for me the bacons seem like a smaller floppy version of the ep pro

bacons are stiffer than the ep pros.....

ep pros are a fat, SOFT, and rockerd pow stick

id go with the bacons hands down, ESPECIALLY if you live in colorado. anthems would work but then dont handle pow nearly as good at the bacons.

^ don't live in CO, i just get my skiing done there.. a bit late during the season too. & and you mentioned anthems which are sick but aren't beeing discussed in this thread. thanks though... bump.

bacons are amazing... i bought them for a pure powder ski, but they rip/carve like a gs ski... honestly

along with this, they are sooo easy to land in the park.

you can butter them around all you want, but they are still super stable

bacons carve fine and hold on ice well they're just gonna be slower edge to edge than the blends. for more park and not much pow go with the blend but for pow and some all around go with bacons

thanks for the help guys. as much as i'd like to get bacons looks like that won't be the ski i'll be needing. just going to wait til tomorrow to see if i can get more feedback... specially on 09 blends.

skied both, both in park and pow, i liked the bacons alot more. more playful in the park, added width made pow alot better, and they felt like the carved batter over all

my post was kinda short. Bacons are super nice on rails, lock on to them, really carve, more than my park skis, and fucking rock in powder. iv never spun more than a three on them because i dont thro down too hard but on threes and fives i think they would be very nice. Even sevens and nines off bigger jumps would probably be fine.

if your looking for soft playful and versatile id say bacons.

stiff and a little more park"spin to win" style blends

Blends!!
I love mine. They are my everthing ski for litterally everything. Perfect flex and stiffness, I can still butter on them. Stiff than the Bacons and I perfer them over Bacons.

I'm 6'2", 165lbs and ski the 183. Worth everypenny.
I'm buying next years and mounting up this years in my wall since I love the art so much.

Extra side question, has anyone had major topsheet peeling on this years blends?

agreed. best ski ive ever owned for everything, i ran them in breck and only used my bacons one day, the deepest, and still kinda wished i was skiing my blends. it rips grooms, handles pow great, playful in the park, was good in bumps crust and crud. i cant recommend anything more.

and no, i havent had any topsheet issues, it cuts up pretty good, about as much as my chronics did, not too terrible, but ive seen better

My blends are hands down the best ski I've ever had. The only problem with them is some top sheet chipping, But nothing bad nothing that effects you're ski performance

you will regret getting the blends if you ever ride the bacons  they can do everything i use mine in oregon and they work all over the mountain

I cant say anything for this years blend, but I have last years and they are fuckin awesome. My favorite ski I've ever owned, hands down. They d everything I've thrown at them so far. (no really deep powder yet though)

Just going to throw one more positive review of the Blend out there.  I have skied them in just about every condition at this point and they manage to do everything quite well.  They are stiff enough to handle the crud well and fat enough to be fun in the pow.  Before I killed the edges on rails they were nice as any ski I have ridden on ice.  I have never experienced chatter with them when bombing groomers.  I am not super good in park but they are really fun for what I like to do in park.

I haven't ridden the Bacon's so I can't help you much on the comparison but I can say that you won't be disappointing if you go with the Blend.  It can do everything you want it to.

definitly get the blends if your going late season skiing the bacons are mainly for pow while still working on the groomers yet your probably not going to see much pow so take the blends.
and incase you weren't planning on getting them from here they're being sold for half price and are in stock in all sizes hurry upthough they're gonna run out soon

Well, I personally rock the bacons. I'm out in the PNW, so they do a good job as an everyday ski.

However, for the stuff you've outlined the blends will probably suit you better, you need to know that the bacon is exactly what you want before you buy it.

i'm 5'11" and about 180. i rode bacons for a while last season (at keystone/abay) and, although they were fun, i think you would be much happier with the blend. i have this year's blend in a 183 mounted one inch back from center. i absolutely love them. they kind of dive in really deep snow because of how i have them mounted, but i have motherships for those days. i used to be a 4frnt msp fan for the all mountain ski but this year's bacon has definitely dethroned it. it rips groomers, destroys chop, slays park, and is even fun on icy race courses. following suit with what everyone else has said, i say go with the blends for sure.

sweet, ive demoed the blends before and they felt super stable and held a nice big carve. congrats on the new skis

Yeah good call - I skied on some 183 blends a few weeks ago in Big White, average hard snow conditions and they were really stable - nice and stiff, hold a good edge, but great in the softer stuff

Definitely more versatile than Bacons for non-pow conditions
