i thought the bottom 6 were nice the first 3 were out of focus, or atleast thats what it looked like, and the first has to much back light, also you might wanna look at a macro lense, what did you use for the wide angle of your room or did you piece together to do a panaramic?

yea well they are pretty good to say the least, are you takeing or majoring/minoring in photo or just for kicks?  yea even tho its a 18-200 lense the closeness is probably still over a foot maybe more, you should look into a macro lense, i have a 28-90 quantaray for canon af lense, macro and it takes some awesome ass macros not to mention you can do regular photography with it, i dont know what it runs it came with the 35mm canon eos rebel k2 that i got of craigs list for fuckn $50! ( the camera is only 2 years old and cost 300) but ill search it right now,

(how do you like the 40D im buying a DSLR soon and think thats what im getting cause i hope to persue photography)

price is about- fuck i cant find it but its nice haha just look for a macro im trying to find a fisheye ...idk why tho

thanks man! im taking it just for kicks though.

ill look into a macro lense- it sounds like something i'd like to have around! thats pretty cool you got yours for cheap.

i like the D40 though (note, that i dont have the 40D- thats a cannon. mine is the low end nikon one). it is my first dslr but i took b&w for a few semesters in highschool and it has everything that i need for what im doing.

practice practice practice... "your first 10,000 photos are your worst" is just about the best photo advice I've ever gotten. I was amazed at how much better my results are now, instead of 5 photos I really like from every  50-100 shots I take I get more like 5 out of every 10 that I like. Till you get there, try to really take your time behind the lens, make every photo a learning experience. Experiment with light, with framing, with equipment and style. Like really experiment, just shoot pictures of interesting light effects (without concerning yourself with subject matter) so that when you do find something interesting youll know exactly how you want to capture it and how the camera will render it.  Just be aware and shoot a lot a lot a lot a lot of photos and before you know it youll be makin mamma proud.

I dig that picture with the ice coming out of that hole. The shadow that the piece of ice is casting is pretty wicked.

Oh, and I think your first photo is definitely my favorite. Really like the backlight and the framing is excellent. Not gonna like, the first couple of plant photos would be illnasty X20 if they were of marijuana.

All kidding aside, nice work. As the poster above advised, take every photo as a learning experience. Think about the photo you're going to take. You have the power to decide what's in the frame and what isn't. You're telling a story in a sense, and you can give what details are important, but remember: you can say more with less.

9 times out of 10 the three focus points on the D40's tiny little sensor wont focus on what you want it to.
use manual focus for best results to get the focus YOU want not what your camera wants.
seeing as how you have a d40 i assume you are just starting out and it's a great start.
