Thinking about switching or at least trying it out.

so i snowboard, and i have for about 5 years and its just getting a little old i cant really do much except go  fast and eat crap hard, so im thinking about switching to skiing either next year or just starting to try it out for the rest of this year, what would be a good pair of beginner skis be, and who thinks that skiing is easier the boarding?

i dotn think one is easier its just whayt you learn first but try some invaders they are cheao good ski for begininng

well what people always say is skiing is easier to learn but harder to get good at.. and id have to agree with that.. if it were me id start out with some pretty genaric solomon like 1080's or dumonts. or maby like a line kronic or anthem.. nothing too expensive till you decide if your gunna stick with it.. and i everyone iv tought how to ski thinks its easier to use a shorter ski to learn so maby try like a 161 or 167.. then move up to a 171 to around 181 or so

Yeah I think the initial learning curve is harder on a board, compared to skis, but progression on skis is probably harder

I enjoy both - give skiing a try and see what you think?!

yeah it kinda took me awhile to learn on a board so who knows, but i did have to teach myself...i was all alone in the world

Well maybe thats why you eat shit heaps now on a board, because you didn't learn the fundamentals properly which limits you from getting to that next level because the technique isn't there

It's the same with many park skiers, they start skiing, but they don't actually learn to ski.

They can throw 7's and 9's in the pipe and on a slope course but they struggle to ski to the lift. Fundamental technique is really really important.

Most pro skiers are ex racers or mogul skiers, the technique is there from the beginning

Skiing is definately not hard to learn at first. Make sure you take a lesson from someone who knows what they're doing, if not a certified instructor.

I have personally taught 2 snowboarders to ski. Within 1 week, they both bought skis and haven't been on their boards since. Then again, some people are just more inclined to skiing rather than boarders. Rent, try it. You'll probably love it, in which case then you should buy some affordable twin tips. Make sure the ski you learn on is fairly short.

yeah i have thought about doing that im 5'9 what size ski would you recomend? i have heard like 160-170

you should go with 165-168 you usually should take bigger but since ur a beginer smaller skis are better to start w ith!

yah that exactly right! the learning curve is alot harder for snowboarding but once u past that curve ur already pretty good. While in skiing its easy to be mediocre at it but to become expert is alot harder.

I was in the exact same boat last year, snowboarding for 8 years, and it just wasn't too fun anymore. I'd never skiid before and decided that it'd be more fun than doing the same old, so I ordered me some skis and just had my friends give me some pointers. For reference I'm 5'7" and I bought 166 Chronics, and I thought they were fantastic.

I switched last year and got super stoked on skiing. In my opinion (imo i know shuddup ns) it's easier and super fun cuz u can go so fast and it doesn't hurt when u fall on skis in the park.

its really fun to know how to do both. I love skiing more than anything but am a half decent snowboarder when I get bored and want a change. I'm never gonna full on switch but its a nice change sometimes
