Any tips for an expert skier just starting out in the park?

start trying safety grabs over jumps. Doing those is what taught me to control my weight and stuff in the air and gave me the confidence to start doing spins.

sounds like you need to speed check more often, and the post above me has it right, the safety grab is a sure thing, cuz first, you wont look like a gaper when youre in the air cuz you wont be flailing all your limbs in crazy directions, and, second, they call it a safety grab for a reason

Great to hear you're gonna start trying some park.  Even though you're an expert skiier, start small.  Small jumps and fun boxes first.  Just practice airing it straight and popping off the lip of the jump evenly.  Get familiar with a jump and know what the correct speed to hit it at is.  Obviously you want to land in the middle of the downhill landing (too slow and you'll knuckle it which hurts), and like you said too fast and you'll overshoot.  Slowly move up in size and when you're comfortable with straight airs try some grabs.  You may want to try your first spins in some powder (personal preference), so you can get the feel down and not get hurt when you fall.

I'm gonna take a guess and say your not popping when you come off the jump. A good pop is the most essential part of good weight control in the air. I'd say slow down a bit and focus more on popping off the lip of the jump. Also go off with a shoulder-wide base, and have your weight well over your boots since the jump is going up your typically neutral position is actually a bit backseat. By popping I mean you actually wanna jump/push off with your feet so you wanna have your knees bent a bit.

Getting used to a solid width base on takeoff will also help once you start setting spins so you can generate from your feet

when learning rails, definitely dont approach them fast, go pretty slow, pop and turn 90 degrees and look at the end of the rail

Park is not about super speed, and popping as far as possible... Its PERCISION... you have to have the right speed, or you either overshoot or undershoot... learn speedchecks... on the way to the park, do the lil jumps ppl build in the woods, and on the sides of the run... and make friends in the park... theyll help the most...

commit to everything.
if you are going to overshoot, relax your muscles...i know its hard to but try your hardest.

just look at what the other kids in the park and go every day and pratice get all pumped up then when u get the trick ull feel amazing

well, i'm about your age, i turn 27 this February. Last yeari got my first pair of twins and started to ease into doing some park. The main thing i try to be consistent with is progressing nice and slow. By this i mean make sure you have the first trick down pat like you can do it every single time and in your sleep before you try to step it up.  I'm pretty active and participate in some kind of sport/physical activity year round i'm in pretty good shape, but i injure easier now than i did when i was 15 if you know what i mean. Also i have to go to work everyday at ups wich is a pretty physical job so an inury would hurt more than just my body.  Theres no need to try to 270 to a rail before your even comfortable sliding them yet your just asking for it.
As far as rails go, my younger cousin gave me some pointers, and finding someone experienced to lap the park with for a while will help you out alot. Observe other people how they do things, watch where they are looking and the position of their skis. If you have never slid a rail before find one that is low to the ground preferrably, but any box with the lip level with the box will do if you cant find a nice low one. Come into the box straight on with your feetabout shoulder wicth apart and your knees bent. Pop onto the box turning your shoulders and keep your skis shoulder width. Lean forward when you hit the box or your feet will slide right out from under you. Its easiest at first to just go ahead and come off switch, when you get up on the box and slide it youll probably just come off switch naturally, but when you want to come off forwards just remember to turn both shoulders.
When your hittiing jumps, straight air them for a while to get the feel for the pop and speed. This will come way easier to an experienced skiier than rails. Try throwing some little saftey grabs in your straight airs its the easiest thing ever and will get you used to moving around in the air and positioning your skis. Go find some little side booters or rollers or something and learn to do some 180s and 360s, then once your comfortable with the jumps and with spinning combine the two and bring the 1s/3s to the jumps in the park. By then you should be on the right path.

I'm kindof in the same boat as you except I'm 20, been skiing since I was five but only started dabbling in park last season and got my first twins this season.  You will probably be surprised how fast it comes to you.  I pretty much landed my first attempt at a 180, but then just sort of dropped because I was so surprised I even landed on my feet.  Stomped like my 3rd attempt.  Same with 360's and sw180's it only took me a few tries to start landing them.

On boxes/rails you will probably wayyyy overestimate the speed you need, especially if you start off hitting boxes straight like I did to build up confidence.  Slow that shit down and do some fat slow carves up to the ramp.  For me its nearly impossible to get too little speed but incredibly easy to get too much.  Once you get the speed right you'll probably lean too far back a couple of times and slip, but then start stomping that shit.  Then once you get boxes down move up to flat rails, then double barrels, then hand rails.  For me rails/boxes were harder to get than spins but I think they're tons of fun and thats what I'm doing mostly right now.

To prepare just watch as many ski movies as you can and before your first attempts at shit stand at the top of your drop in for a minute visualizing yourself stomping that shit in the steeziest way possible.

I'd say just don't be afraid to crash. If your not crashing then your not pushing hard enough. Its a fine line though. Also try to surround yourself with good riders cause that shit does wonders for progressing.

there's already been a lot of good advice in this thread so i don't need to repeat anything. one thing i think helped me progress a lot in park skiing is just the way i view the mountain. being a good skier already definitely helps you out on this one. from the top of the lift to the park if you're just skiing groomers, look for things to pop little 180s off of or just jump off of. take rollers big with speed. ski switch a lot, especially if it feels uncomfortable, slow down and do it anyways. other than that, a lots been said in this thread. remember to pop off jumps, you're not just riding off it. keep your knees bent before, during, and after a jump, box, or rail. and definitely try to ski with people who are good in the park, as people have said in this thread.
