it certainly wouldnt hurt.  if you think about it a longer belt will increase the surface area that you are displacing the weight of the sled.  and it will give you more power laterally across the water so you will be less likely to sink... I dont no if that makes any sense but I would think a longer belt would help, it looks like its just a stock sled in that video tho.
