Info on Sleds

I am 4th year design student at the University of Cincinnati. I have started thinking about my senior thesis project for next year, and one of my thoughts was a snowmobile. My initial concept is a smaller, lighter, cheaper sled that would be the snowmobile equivalent of a dirtbike. Not for expeditions or large scale ascents, but something to just have fun on.

I was wondering if you guys saw any need for such a product. Is there some other type of transport you would prefer or a glaring deficiency with traditional sleds? Just trying to get some basic info.

see i like the concept, but its been done to the tits. Plus the problem i have with the snowhawk/motorbike design is that its not stable at all. You can't climb anything with that, and if you go into pow over a foot forget about having fun throwing it around.

I say, look at maybe a two track, two ski design. A while back i saw this bike that the frame leaned into the turns, but the moving platform did not. I think that would be sick. Like have two tracks that move up or down depending on how much you want to climb, or how much you want to turn.

Even a liedown snowmobile......like a crotch rocket riding position would be sick. Then you can sort of include a manual transmission too ( never fully been done on a sled).

then what about something like this.. still just a modification on a conventional quad.. but this would give you a manual tranny, two skis, two tracks... not really helping with original ideas, sorry man.

btw dont rip on me, i know that kawi isn't a manual.. but you get the idea
