I listen to 5+ hours of rap a day, mainly because i'm almost constantly working on web design (grounded from skiing GAYY) check my site http://myhs.us/

MY FAVORITE RAPPERS (kind of ordered-ish)

B.I.G. - Best rapper ever.

Jay Z - one of the most consistent rappers ever, i have his discography, his freestyles (old ones, when he was jazzy) are good, and his new shit is too

Lil Wayne - Not a "real" gangster, shot HIMSELF when he was 12 (accidently), but i love his songs, his lyrics are crazy!

Kanye West - FUCK his new shit, but his first 3 albums were great (graduation & earlier), and his beats he makes (like heart of the city) are crazy

50 Cent - I used to hate on 50, still hate g-unit, but i love 50s music. His latest album, curtis is gay as aids, but The Massacre was all i listened to when it came out. In My Hood (the massacre) is one of my favorite songs ever. Definitly one of the best G-rappers,

Papoose/Cassidy/Saigon - All great and under-appreciated rappers, Cass is famous for his freestyles, Pap for having almost 500 songs, and saigon is a true G that killed a person at 12.

Big L - Lifestyles ov da Poos and Dangerous is a great album, also look up "7 minute freestyle with jayz", probably the best lyrics ever, also had a the big picture album, but i reccomend the other one

Common - Listen to his Finding Forever album, its great,

my favorite rapper is probably Talib Kweli.  It's all about the beats for skiing, though.

most people are going to hate on your because you like mainstream rappers. for some reason that's the lamest thing you can do here on NS because underground rappers are just soooooooooo fucking great but mainstream rappers aren't. I don't understand it personally, I don't see why its such a problem to like rappers than most people like.

anyway, I agree with you - most of those guys are dope. and to everybody who says his list sucks because it isn't underground rappers, go stick your fucking head up your ass. so sick of of all the music related hate. let the kid express himself.

i agreed with most of your post until the southern hip hop part, considering cunninlynguists are southern hip hop (kentucky and georgia) and while he's mainstream which apparently is a problem for you, T.I. holds it down pretty good for how mainstream he is.

moslty agree with that wayne is good but kind of a poser and yea fuck kanyes new shit i hate it but all of his actual rap is good and id def throw THE GAME in there hes been killing it lately hes one of my favorite rappers now and yes big is the greatest ever nobody will ever top his shit and in my opinion tupac doesnt have shit on him at all.

How can you have 50 cent or lil wayne on that list? 50 is garbage and was never really that good. Lil wayne on the other hand I do enjoy, I have a bunch of his Cd's and mixtapes, but I wouldnt put him on a top list.

Top lists should include: Nas, Common (sense), Tupac, Jay z, Eminem, B.I.G., Big L, all of Wu. Those  types of names should be on the list.

Because in terms of lyrical talent, mainstream rappers are generally piss-poor because their marketing allows them to be. Why perfect their game when they're gonna sell mad albums no matter what? If this is a list of TALENTED rappers, then this is a colossal failure. Here's a real list... for the hundredth time.

Do me a favor, go cop Immortal Technique - Revolutionary Vol. 1&2 and open your mind to a whole new world of hip hop that isn't fucking ridiculous, fake, and terrible.

Then after that go get Celph Titled - The Gatalouge.  Thats a 4 CD set and after you get done with that you'll never spin a 50 cent album again.

i have so many things wrong with this post. first of all, just caus Biggie is dead doesn't mean he's not a fucking legend and worthy of that title. and jayz is, like the thread creator said, consistently sick with all of his records. now i'm not a big weezy fan, but a lot of his lyrics are mad clever, and some are just funny. now i'm not a fan of kanye's two most recent cds. graduation's not terrible, but i don't like 808's. late registration and college dropout were both such killer cds. i'm not a 50 cent fan, but hate it or love it is one of my favorite rap songs of all time. and i'll skip down to common. he is one of the sickest rappers out there now, and while he is mainstream, he still is so sick.

Aside from your comment about Biggie and Big L I agree. Biggie is not the most talented, but he has some pretty sick flows here and there and he is a fucking legend. You don't get much more thug than Biggie if you Smalls, man. And if you like the kind of hip hop I think you do from that post, you'd love Big L. The rest of the list is pretty shitty but L is one of the most talented lyricists ever, goddamn machine. Check out "Flamboyant" and his 97 freestyle.

i understand you don't like mainstream rappers but the fact that you left pac, jay, common, mobb deep, and KRS off that list is a crime

slug, kno, rakim, kweli, and Big L are beasts, though.  i'll give ya that.

been a fan since i was a little kid. although if i was you i would be questioning Snoop before Limp Bizkit.

I have to say though, i didn't get big into rap until about 4 years ago. i've always been a bigger fan of classic rock.
