Using one binding for two skis

Ok, ive done this with my rossi axials, and I plan on doing this for my jesters i just got.....

I am a certified tech, and I know how to adjust my bindings properly, but i was wondering if anyone else out there uses one set of bindings and just switches em out between skis.

Well, I own all the tools I need to mount the bindings

I drill the hole pattern that I want at my shop, and if I need to use the binding for my other ski I just unscrew it and screw it on to the other ski.....set the forward pressure and ski em.

Ive never experienced the hold becoming weaker, and never had to heli coil em either this way.

The only problem I could see with this is the ski itself eventually weakening where the holes are from being screwed numerous times.....but ive done it for years and I havent seen this problem happen yet.

and you have to glue them everytime and wait for it to dry overnight if you plan on keeping water out of your cores...seems like a dumb idea to me. There are better ways you could do it...like mount demo plates for your specific binding on each ski, and then just swap out the bindings for the other skis cause they use the same demo plate. Something like that seems more realistic.

i was thinkin about the helicoil idea....

its not like im switching the bindings out weekly, i usually only use one pair with the one binding, but when the occasional powder day I get comes along ill switch the bindings to my pow skis.

Helicoil them or you're going to run into problems eventually. They might be ok over a few seasons, but everytime you remove the binding the holes get weaker and more prone to binding pull outs.

Jesus buy another pair of bindings, watch on sac and td. The cost of the bindings will be offset by your skis not being weak as fuck.

If it works it works but it would be a load of hassle to actually do. Just spend a couple of hundred on a decent set of bindings that will last you for years.

Line was at the forefront of that idea, the concept of moving bindings was amazing, and didn't fail...the first generation of the binding they made had issues, basically a great concept with less-than-ideal implementation, needs more R&D. But I seriously doubt we've seen the end of that innovation.

it would obviously best (and pretty sweet) if you could put some kind of metal inserts into your skis so that way you could avoid water getting in (unlike with heli coils). Pretty much the Line/snowboard idea. that way, you could own one bomb ass pair of bindings (like fks 185s) and use them over your whole quiver. probably not worth it if you only had 2 pairs of skis though.

I can understand them weakening severly if I was doing this on a weekend to weekend basis, but were talkin a binding switch once a season if that.  I work in a shop so I have all the tools necessary, and glue.  If I were doing this constantly I would buy another binding, but this binding switch is going from my pow ski (one or two trips the whole year), to my all mountain ski (which I leave on the rest of the season).  I personally havent experienced an issue, Ive been teching for awhile now and I know what can happen, but I switch these bindings over so little that it really doesnt make sense to me to buy another binding unless im switching back and ofrth between them constantly.

It's a shame that you aren't giving your skis any respect.  Why buy a pair of skis if you won't even buy a pair of bindings for them?  You invested money into skis, yet you can't invest a little more to do them justice?  That sir, is just plain cheap.  There are things to penny pinch on, and things not to.  But hey, they are your skis.  So if you feel like disrespecting them like that, so be it.  You are only screwing yourself over.

I think you even doubt your plan, or you wouldn't have made this thread to basically reassure yourself that this isn't a dumb idea.  That if others also do it, it must be ok.  All in all, I don't think you'll find much reassurance here.

Get next years Blizzards if you want to be able to switch out bindings.

They have the only method I know of thats anywhere at all good for that kinda thing. The IQ system is sick

next year i hear they will give you the ability to have either the Griffon, Jester, or 14 din version of the same binding, as well as the duke, and you can just switch off between them. right now they only have the duke, and the 14 din Marker Biometric toe-jester heelpiece to use.

I dont even think it rises the binding too much, either.. and binding pullouts are nearly impossible.

Look I know its not the best idea, but its what I have to deal with until I can get another pair of bindings next year.  Im not gonna spend a car payment on a pair of bindings at full price when I have no reason to right now.

I made this thread to see if anyone else has done this, I know some people that have done the same thing as me and have had no problems, and the guy who did it was a much better tech than me and almost 100 pounds heavier.  Ive never experienced a problem, and I dont think anyone should do it unless they have the proper tech equipment, but if I havent seen any difference in my skis durability then Im not gonna waste money for a binding I would rarely use.  Who knows maybe next season I will buy another jester, but im going off my own experience doing it and all my holes are completely fine after doing it for the last few seasons.

Will my luck change?  It probably could....Do I ride enough for it to make any relevance? no

helicoil and safe don't go together.  I'd rather remount than helicoil anyday and if there's no possible way to remount then get different bindings and if there's nothing left after that than its time for a new set of skis. 


YOU GUYS JUST NEED TO GET SOME OLD LINE SKIS AND SOME REACTOR BINDINGS AND YOU'RE SET!!!!!  YOU CAN SWITCH YOUR BINDINGS FROM ONE LINE SKI TO ANOTHER ITS GENIUS, PURE GENIUS I TELL YA!

you should be fine, ive done it before.

i had a pair of old park skis that had been sitting around, my regular park skis were stuck at a friends house so i took a pair of bindings off of my scratch bcs and put them on the old park skis and they were fine. of course the holes will get worse over time, but what doesnt get worse over time, dont listen to these people, now a days most people on here dont know shit anyway and just say dumb ass stuff that will fuck people over.

some amplid skis come with metal inserts that you can use with their slider plate system or somthing like that. They are pretty much the same thing as snowboards holes. Mine came with them even though i dont use them.
