Why is it called jibbing?

Where did the word jib and jibbing come from? Its seems totally random

well around the mid 20th century, a man in switzerland named Sir Edward Jib III would take his nordic skis and attempt to jump over them, he would fail, and end up lading on then sliding off of said object that he was trying to jump, like a rock or log, Other people would make fun of his terrible jumping skills but Edward was the fastest nordic skier in the land and they couldnt touch his skiing technique. But eventually they would go about saying "dont jib that thing chap" when people would attempt to jump things. Eventually snowboarders picked it up, made it semi-cool, then not too long ago TWall found it, pretzled it, made it his bitch, and slapped a 4bi9 sticker on it.

He's not asking about what it means, just the origin of the word; which is different to its meaning.

Like, I know what a mute grab is; but I don't know why it's called a mute; unless it's an anagram for "Moseley Under The Edge" or something ridaculous like that.

I always used jibbing in reference to backcountry jumps and urban for the jumping over rails/street obstacles/etc. :/

Jibbing primarily means sliding rails. It was first used in skateboarding. Jib and rails are names for meth. Drugs are cool, especially in alternative sports circles. The relativity of the names made it an easy transition. We bite names from skateboarding and snowboarding all the time.
