Good program to make an edit on iMac

THe title pretty much says it all. I plan to catch some footy on camera this winter and I was wondering what everybody uses to make edits? I have barely any experience with iMovie but I do have iMovie 08 and iMovie HD. So yeah, all responses are appreciated. Compi specs below.

unless you're doing some crazy editing tricks imovie should be just fine  and it's super easy to use

after learning imovie basics..head over and learn how to use final cut express...affordable..and its really good..

I'd learn editing basics on iMovie, and then move to final cut pro or final cut express. Skip vegas or premier.

I movie is a good program if u can get your hands on Final Cut pro tho i highly recommend it
