I went for my first time, and I gotta say it was AWESOME. 2 friends and I made the 8 hour drive out to Pirini (sp) Bridge which spans the Snake River in Twin Falls, Idaho. As far as my friends and I know, it is the only bridge in the U.S. that is legal to base jump off of. When you step over the railing and look out to the horizon you see the dirt ramp that was built for Evil Kinevils motorcycle jump over the Snake River. It's a 486ft vertical distance from the bridge to the water. Keeping in mind I have never paraglided or been skydiving, I landed in the water my first time. I was stoked when I landed, but almost drowned trying to swim to shore, as the chute filled with water which made swimming very difficult. My next jump was better, but the canopy got hung up in a tree. By the third jump i had it a little more dialed and landed in the field were I was suppoosed to. For the first two jumps, my base jumping friend Ted held the throw chute and the canopy opened relatively early. On the third jump I threw my own chute after counting to two...wow! I really want to go to denver and take the skydiving courses to learn more about flying the chute and freefalling.
